La Colombiana Restaurante â A Colombian Culinary Adventure in Beavercreek
Tucked away on Commons Blvd in Beavercreek, La Colombiana Restaurante offers more than just a meal â it's a journey into the heart of Colombian flavor and hospitality. From the moment we stepped in, we were met with a warm, colorful ambiance and the mouthwatering aroma of home-cooked Latin dishes.
We kicked things off with a round of empanadas â two beef, two chicken â each golden and crispy, with savory fillings that hit all the right notes. Paired with waters and a standout traditional Colombian drink, Avena Havina, the meal began with promise. This creamy oat-based beverage, lightly sweet and spiced with cinnamon, was unlike anything weâd tried before and added a comforting twist to the experience.
Our server, Maria, was an absolute gem. Attentive, cheerful, and incredibly knowledgeable, she made us feel welcome and helped us navigate the menu like pros. Her recommendations were spot-on.
We explored a variety of entrees, including:
Chuzos de Pollo â Juicy grilled chicken skewers, smoky and tender with a satisfying sear.
Plato TĂpico â A hearty traditional platter that showcases Colombian staples like grilled meats, rice, plantains, and more â a true celebration on a plate.
Arepa con Todo â A deliciously overstuffed corn cake topped with shredded chicken and sauces, served with sweet, caramelized plantains.
Arroz con Pollo â Flavor-packed rice with chicken and a generous helping of plantains, a classic dish done right.
For dessert, we let Maria surprise us â and she delivered with Obleas, delicate wafer discs sandwiched with creamy arequipe (Colombian caramel). Light, sweet, and satisfying, they were the perfect conclusion to a rich and diverse meal.
All four of us left full, happy, and already planning our return. The total bill came to about $100 â a fantastic value for the quality and variety we enjoyed.
Whether you're familiar with Colombian cuisine or just looking to try something new, La Colombiana offers an inviting atmosphere, bold and comforting flavors, and service that truly stands out. Itâs a little slice of BogotĂĄ right here in Ohio.
Five stars. Highly recommended. Go hungry and let Maria take care...
Read moreVery tasty and great value. The people who work there are all family and they care a lot about the restaurant. The food was good: hot, fresh, and tasty. I ordered an arepa con todo with the huevos pericos (scrambled eggs). It's so exciting to get good vegetarian Latino food! I wish there had been more eggs and less rice & beans on the arepa but the dish was flavorful and well seasoned. When I asked for hot sauce, they disappointingly brought me Tabasco, albeit the habañero version. A housemade hot sauce would've been more interesting. The patacones (twice-fried plantain chips) were both crisp and airy and piping-hot fresh from the deep fryer. So yummy!
My friend got the arepa con todo with chicken and claimed she could eat it every day. This was her first experience with Colombian food, so I'd say it was a success.
The young server was willing to answer questions. The marinade for meat uses Worcestershire sauce, which contains fish, something my dining companion is very allergic to! The server was helpful in recommending other dishes to him. My friend eventually chose the beef empañadas. This friend of mine tends toward traditional, American food, but he thought the empañadas were really good. He also doesn't like spicy food and these didn't have much spice at all to them. (Colombian food is not spicy like we think Mexican food is.)
The place is decorated tastefully with some cute artesanĂa pieces. The bathrooms are clean. There was TV on during the late-lunchtime when we went. It was tuned to a Spanish TV station, which added to the atmosphere. It wasn't too noisy or otherwise I would've docked this place a star (I hate TV's in...
Read moreAte here today for the first time, but I will be back! Started with the appetizer called Empanadas con Aji (ordered the beef version with the mild Aji sauce) and four large and piping hot Empanadas were brought out. It was enough to fill up the average person! My best description of the filling would be it's like a bean burrito that's been amplified 10 times. The filling is very finely chopped, and I noticed several kinds of vegetables mixed into the beef. Very delicious!
For my main course, I ordered the Bandeja Paisa ("Typical peasant platter, Colombian style shredded beef, pork belly, Colombian style sausage, egg, pinto beans, white rice, sweet plantains, arepita, and house salad"). Wow. It was a lot of food, but I loved the mix of flavors. The pork belly piece was very generous in size, the shredded beef was outstanding, and the sausage had a very good flavor. The house salad was crisp, fresh, and had a definite bite to it from the delicious dressing.
Price for all of that (including a soda) was almost $30, so it is a little pricey, but most of that was in my main course, and it was a lot of food.
Service was excellent, and the interior was clean and well maintained. Staff was friendly. Worth a visit for lunch or dinner--just remember it's not fast food, so if you're in a hurry, don't stop there. Come back when you have a...
