I've been to Kkoki twice now. The first time I came it was just with my wife and it was an okay experience, there were definitely a few issues with the service but this second time was something else. This second time I came with my wife and part of her family. From the start the older lady that took our orders and served us the dishes for the Korean BBQ was incredibly rude. It felt as if we were not welcome in the establishment the entire time. We were very respectful and quiet during our time there but the way the server had talked to us in general was of disdain for us. My wife noticed that other customers at other tables were being treated very differently than our table, that she would greet others and also communicate more with them. I hate to use the race card and forgive me for it but my wife and her family are latino. The tables that were being treated with more kindness and respect were white and korean tables. At the end of it all, we had one thing that we requested to go which was from a hot bowl of soup, the server came to our table and quickly dropped the plastic cup on our table and left. The thing is, she actually helped other tables store their hot soup in the plastic cups but when it came to us she refused though we spoke to her with genuine kindness and respect. My wife and her family felt like they didn't belong at the restaurant and I could tell that it really affected their day afterwards. On our first time eating there I did tip over 20% on the first time, so if anyone is thinking maybe we didn't tip well on our first visit hence the bad blood, that isn't it. The food is good here I will give them that, but there is a possibility that during your visit you will not feel welcome and it may put you in a bad funk for the rest of your day. I say it's not worth it when there are other great Korean food options...

This is our 4th time coming here because the food is great but the service only gets WORSE every time⌠this is my last time ever coming here. The server was very short with us, only speaking the bare minimum. The service was virtually non-existent. They never come by, you have to try and hunt them down.. and they mostly pretend not to hear us. We asked for spoons and we received them half way through our meal because we had to wait to ask them again. We didnât get all of our rice at first she told us we got five when we only got 4. They never refilled our water, never got us more side dishes. When we asked for more side dishes, she walked away without saying anything. Clearly annoyed but later came back with more side dishes.
I ordered kimchi and tofu, to my surprise it came with pork. When I asked why there was meat she said âoh it comes that way in Koreaâ even though the menu doesnât say there is any meat. I religiously canât eat pig so I had no choice but to send it back. I had to ask her to take it away and again she looked very annoyedâŚ
Finally, they charged us an automatic 18% gratuity when the menu clearly stated that for groups of six they charged %20 and there was only five of us. I asked her and she said they changed itâŚ? But I just read someoneâs review who had four people and was also charged an automatic %18. I think they lied and possibly do it when they know theyâre getting a bad tip due to bad service?
It makes me very sad that places like this get business when other kind and hard working business might not. They do no deserve the stars they received. I donât know why they always treat us that way but it feels like discrimination. If we were Korean would they have treated us badly? I...
Read moreThis is regarding the SE Powell location 10/27/19. I went here for my friends birthday last night, there were five adults and five kids our bill totaled over $230 let's say the service was below sub par if I was able to give them zero stars I definitely would.
we arrived at 5 o'clock it took forever for them to get drinks out to us into take our order when we did order the food came out fairly quickly however when they turned on the fans it turned off our burners so there we were for 5 to 10 minutes with raw food halfway cooked until somebody came back to turn on the burners.
about 30 minutes into it the owner came by to ask us how many adults we had at our table because he said his servers should have positioned us in a different way so other people could use the two burners that we were not using. very very rude! Can I just asked the question how do you rush people of color from a table because you have a line of people waiting we have two hours to eat?
They pretty much rushed us out of there and then today I just realized we didn't even get a chance to get any of the vegetables that came with the all you can eat package. no mushrooms no potatoes no nothing because it was so chaotic I couldn't even focus on what came v. didn't come out but i can assure you we did not receive any of the veggies. you can check out my Yelp photos to see I did not even take photos of the vegetables because I was so distraught, forgot they were apart of the order.
never again will I return... as of 7pm today...The owner did respond to the phone call and said he's going to take this as a learning experience and will give us a free seafood pizza and a drink the next time...
