This used to be The Chamber at 9900—one of the last grandfathered-in indoor cigar bars in Oregon and a true speakeasy in both spirit and experience. It had an effortlessly cool atmosphere, incredible food, and a staff that made the place feel like home.

Now? It’s been completely gutted and rebranded as Wax Social, and the transformation is nothing short of a tragedy.

The new owners removed the cigar bar functionality, fired the entire former staff, and stripped away everything that made The Chamber unique. What’s left is a sterile, inauthentic lounge trying to pass as a “speakeasy” inside a Best Western. The charm is gone.

The menu has been shrunk down into a more uptight small-plate concept, but the quality has noticeably dropped. What used to be a standout dining experience is now forgettable at best.

I stopped in on a Saturday night. There was a live DJ… and I was the only person there. That says everything. The community that once loved this place has been alienated. It feels like the new concept was built without understanding—or caring about—what made this spot special.

From the moment I walked in, I knew this was more than just another night out — this was an experience. The lighting is warm and inviting, the music perfectly balanced, and every detail feels intentional.

The cocktails? Works of art. Each drink is crafted with precision, creativity, and a clear passion for flavor. The bartenders don’t just make drinks — they curate moments. I tried the a few of their signature drinks, and it was perfectly balanced, with layers of flavor that unfolded sip after sip.

Service was attentive without being intrusive, and the staff’s knowledge of spirits is impressive. They’re happy to offer recommendations, and every suggestion we took was spot-on.

WAX Social recently opened. This is the place Beaverton Metro Area needed badly!!!

It is such a great place to visit. It has the ambience of a speakeasy and the smooth vibe of the favorite lounge to let go of your cares. On the weekends there is a DJ spinning on vinyls! It’s worth visiting anytime but definitely on the weekend. I don’t know how to explain it other than to say…
