I stopped at the Route 220 Diner in Bedford, PA on two occasions, and both times I was relatively pleased with my meals!
The building itself is rather small, but VERY decorative with that classic 50’s Diner aesthetic! Black & White checkered patterns are ALWAYS a welcome design choice with retro themed diners! However, instead of having checkered floors, they have checkered tables, NEAT-O! The red chairs and window trim make everything pop even more! My absolute favorite part is the old records glued to the wall and hanging from the ceiling! The only problem is it can get rather cramped, especially on a busy day. That and some of the decor may alienate certain customers. For instance, at the entrance, there’s a photo of Dr. Anthony Fauci and Rachel Levine with text “PERMANENTLY BANNED” surrounding it. I really don’t see why they thought that was necessary.
Both times I came, I ordered two different meals. The first time, I got Chicken Tenders, which were VERY satisfying and crispy with a flavorful Golden Orange breading!! The second time, I had a cheeseburger, which wasn’t anything to write home about, but DEFINITELY better than the abomination I received from the Denny’s next door! I had french fries with both meals, and they were DELECTABLE!! They were the classic “Fresh Cut” fries with the potato skins left intact, but fried to that PERFECT Golden Yellow color I absolutely LOVE in a batch of fries!! Just wonderful!
Overall, despite some questionable signage and decorations, this is another great local diner worth checking out! I must warn you, it can get really crowded during peak hours. Although, much like Peggy’s Diner in Claysburg, I can see why. With food ranging from good to EXCELLENT, and a very retro environment, it’s no wonder people arrive at this eatery in droves! If you’re in the Bedford area, I recommend checking this place out...
Read moreMy mom and i went here yesterday and it's sad to say that we were very disappointed. First off if you want to have a diner please make it is clean top to bottom. We was seated right by a window and on the window seal was a dead bee, also very dusty. I had ordered a swiss mushroom burger and fries. The fries werent bad at all but the burger just had a pool of Grease on top of it, I could also tell that the meat was frozen not fresh which is disappointing. I couldnt even eat all of it. My mom had gotten an omelet which was even an omelet at all. The omelet was very thin and it also had peppers and ham in it. But the ham was lunch meat ham. It had no seasoning at all. Our waitress that was very nice and polite and did everything according to the book but there is some other waitresses that were just very pushy and their attitude was just negative and they just needed to go home. Also there was an elderly couple there before us before we got there before we even ordered our food and we got our food before there's. The waitress elderly couple had was very rude and just wanted to rush people in and out and she had forgotten to put their order in so they had to wait longer than anybody else for their food and then once they got their food it looks very dried and not appetizing at all. You could also hear the kitchen staff stay put it in the microwave or just say microwave it which to me is not typing at all if you're going to have a diner please do not use a microwave. To say the least we will not be back here for a while until this place changes it's very dirty and please attitudes need to change and the kitchen staff also needs to change. Somebody needs to get Chef Gordon...
Read moreBare with me this might be long. So we were looking for a place to eat after our adventures at Old Bedford Village and found this place via Google maps. I read the reviews, and most were 4 or 5 stars, and then some were really bad...well, upon closer inspection, almost all the bad reviews weren't based on food or service. They were because they claimed this place is too heavy on the right wing side and religion. Several posts were of the first picture I have on here of the mug. Please explain to me how the phrase "Work like crazy to support the lazy" is offensive? Unless one is the lazy person 🤔. One person said they felt unsafe because there were pictures of guns on the wall...pictures! They were scared of pictures 🤣Anyhow of course, this meant we had to go. First of all, other than the hilarious picture at the entrance I shared here, I didn't see anything I consider political. There is a red white and blue eagle and a cross on the menu front, so that must be the religious pushing part 🤷♀️. But seriously, you literally would have to be searching to find stuff or just an extreme pansy. I assume the bad posts were of the latter. Anyhow I found the old-fashioned atmosphere charming, the waitresses were very friendly, and the food was pretty good. Overall, it is a good place to visit if you're in the area and...
