š» The Horseās Mouth Tavern ā Belding, MI
If The Harmful Rooster is the ambassador of average, then The Horseās Mouth Tavern is its slightly more ambitious cousināstill committed to the middle of the road, but with a craft beer in hand and a twinkle of effort in its eye.
The vibe? Cozy enough to make you think someone once cared about ambiance, but not so cozy that youād cancel your plans to stay longer. The food? It exists. Burgers, wraps, and a monster pretzel thatās more memorable for its size than its flavor. The drinks? Plentiful, with 22 beers on tap and a Michigan-made draft root beer that tastes like nostalgia filtered through a flat Mountian Dew.
Service was friendly in that Midwestern wayāwarm smiles, casual banter, and just enough attentiveness to keep you from wondering if youāve been forgotten. Itās the kind of place where you could imagine a decent night out, provided your expectations are calibrated to āpleasantly fine.ā
But once again, the eveningās true climax came not from the tavernās offerings, but from the walk that followed. The Flat River Trail, winding gently from the tavernās doorstep, leads directly to the Veteran Memorial Bridge. And there it was again: graffiti, defacing a monument meant to honor sacrifice. My dateāa veteranāwas devastated. Tears, heartbreak, and another meal returned to nature in a violent, gut-wrenching moment.
Itās hard to separate the tavern from the trail, the beer from the bridge. The path from dinner to desecration is too direct, too symbolic. Itās a reminder that even a maximally average night out can end in emotional ruin when civic neglect lurks just down the sidewalk.
In summary: The Horseās Mouth Tavern offers a slightly elevated take on mediocrity, but the emotional fallout waiting at the end of the trail makes it hard to recommend without a...

After being on hold suddenly they picked up the phone and immediately hung up without saying a word! I decided to try The Horses Mouth instead. They answered the phone and it turns out she was one of the owners. She took my order and said it would be 10 minutes. Of course I was two minutes away and went in to wait. She came to the end of the bar and I had my to go order in less than five minutes. She was so nice and accommodating that this will be my new to go order place!! The tacos were delicious!! I explained what the āotherā place, starts with Silk and ends with City, had done and she assured me that whatever I order from them will be top notch. I accept that challenge!!! My new go to...
Ā Ā Ā Read more$9.99 3 Chicken tenders were great fall apart tenders. Boneless wings were over priced $9.99 for 8 pieces of buffalo popcorn chicken along with there bonus fries which was a handful of curly, regular fries, onion rings, sweet potatoe fries for ~$7. Wish there was more to the second plate of food we got. Also the owner I assume. Was drinking on the job and he went to change the tv channel with the remote but it wasnāt working from the ground so he stood on the table in the middle of the dinning area on the table right next to us to try and change it. At least he washed the table when he was done but was kind of weird to me. Then after was playing rap music over a speaker with older gentlemen and women there. It was too loud for me and my family, I donāt even think my work is this loud. And I work...
