Alejandro’s Cafe — Restaurant in Belen

Went for breakfast this morning. I ordered to go, I ordered menudo and asked if they could make a Carne adovada w/egg breakfast burrito, smothered w/red chile. I noticed they didn't offer that burrito and agreed to pay for the Carne adovada w/egg plate. I asked the young lady taking my order if this was something they could do and she assured me, yes of course no problem. I paid and waited for my order. Apparently the cooks made a Carne adovada w/egg plate instead of a burrito so one of the workers said "we had to start your order over the cooks got the order wrong". I said ok no problem, even though 2 other customers that ordered after I did had already left with their food. Well when I got home, it seems as if they just stuffed the Carne adovada w/egg plate into a tortilla and called it good. The burrito was sloppy, over easy eggs running all over the place. It was just thrown together. I ended up just throwing it away. If there is no substitutes then say so, but with the cost of everything if we choose to spend our money at a local restaurant the people working there should take pride in what they serve. I was very disappointed and will not be returning. Belen doesn't have a whole lot of food options and the employees are pretty friendly and the restaurant is nice but it felt like someone probably got upset about the change in oder and said FK it and threw it all...

Food - Timely and decent. Not exceptional in any way, but a solid eatery if not wanting to cook at home. Service - Fast to take order and get food to table (which is super important), but that's not where service should end. Staff way too busy standing around front of restaurant talking and on cell phones with each other. So glad they like each other so much, but never returned to remove dishes from the table, ask if we needed drink refills, or to give the check (till we had been sitting there for a long time). I still tipped well because that's what I do, but I would never return for customer service, and I would consider spending my money elsewhere in town when eating out. This was our second time in there, and if the relaxed service trend continues, this business will not thrive. Also, they should clean up unnecessary clutter building in the bathroom hallway area. I was a hostess, cashier, and waitress for many of my young years and never once thought myself deservedly tip worthy without intentionally earning it. Hope they read this and get it together. May try once more, but it won't be a first...

I really don't know how this place has such a good rating. The chicken fried steak was worse than a TV dinner, actually inedible. The Carne asada burrito dripping some kind of liquid and tasted like they heated it up in a microwave. The eggs and sausage were average. They didn't bring out the toast until about 7 minutes after the food dropped. There was a fly stuck in the sugar jar. They did serve chips and salsa which was nice. The restrooms had a sign asking you to not put ANY toilet paper in the toilet and put it into the trashcan instead. I understand that commercial buildings sometimes have to be careful of their septic, but there are some things that NEED...
