As a former McDonalds employee and regular customer in the Bangor/Brewer area, I can honestly say that the Waterville location could teach my area a thing or two about customer service. Customer service at both drive-thru windows was the best I have had at a McDonalds anywhere in years. I noticed immediately. It was an adult male with glasses at window 1 and an adult male with a red beard at Window 2 working around 11am on June 11, 2024. I ordered an iced coffee, McChicken and 2 McDoubles. The extra sugar in the coffee could have been a little more generous and the amount of mayonnaise on my sandwich was excessive but those were easy enough for me to remedy on my own and there's a noticeable difference in the quality here in Waterville. It was absolutely delicious even with the light sugar and heavy mayo. Everything was fresh and in Bangor and Brewer I often have to be parked for the same order but Waterville works like a well oiled machine. This can only occur when you have good employees working drive-thru, front-counter, management and grill. The entire staff deserves recognition for a job well done because without all the pieces it wouldn't run so smoothly. You guys have it together and it's noticeable to the customer. I am super impressed and if I have to go to Waterville again I will definitely be stopping back in here. Great job everyone but especially to the two workers in drive-thru with their impeccable customer service skills. Not everyone is cut out for customer service and Waterville has more than one employee that does an outstanding job. How the job is done at Waterville McDonalds should be recognized and modeled by other McDonalds locations. When I worked in Brewer I learned that McDonalds isn't an easy place to work when it comes to customer service because oftentimes people have already had a bad experience elsewhere so some customers were already hostile from the get go so I feel McDonalds is a place that is harder to work at than other fast food restaurants because in my experience it's almost like you have to work harder to make a customer happy even if you aren't the reason they had a prior bad experience. For this reason I have seen many people quit because of how frustrating it could sometimes be to try to make a customer happy so it's not a job just anyone can do, it takes a certain type of patience and understanding to offer good customer service and I definitely think both your drive-thru employees deserve employee of the month because for me to encounter two amazing fast food workers with impeccable customer service skills is rare for me and how they deal with customers in a friendly and polite manner was noticed immediately. I was blown away at how good the service was and how fast we got our food and how fresh it was. Waterville McDonalds, you did an...
Read moreI pulled into the Belfast McDonald’s drive-through on Friday, June 6 and ordered two Double Quarter Pounders, no cheese, with large fries and a large shake. They did get the no cheese part right — I waited longer than normal for my order, and that was the only thing they nailed.
But everything else was absolute garbage. The patties were so thin, I’m not joking, two pieces of paper stacked on top of each other would’ve been thicker. They were dry, grayish, and looked like they’d been sitting under a heat lamp for days. There was no way that was even remotely a quarter pound of meat, let alone two patties per burger. I literally got two burgers with one measly patty total — that’s an insult, not a meal.
The fries were cold, slimy, and limp. Somehow they were both greasy and disgusting but also lifeless and soggy. The large shake was so watery it sloshed around like melted ice water, not thick or creamy at all. It was a joke.
I dropped $28 and some change on this pathetic excuse for food. The value here is non-existent. If you’re paying nearly thirty bucks, you deserve actual food — not a couple of paper-thin patties, nasty fries, and a watery shake.

Here’s what $28 at Hannaford in Belfast would buy you if you went and made it yourself:
• 3 pounds of fresh ground beef at $4.99/lb = $14.97
(Enough for about 12 real quarter-pound burgers, juicy and fresh, not paper-thin scraps.)
• 6 hamburger buns (from an 8-pack at $3.49; cost for 6 buns ~ $2.62)
• 6 slices of American cheese ($1.31; from $3.49/lb package with about 16 slices)
• 1.5 pounds of frozen fries ($1.72; from a $2.29/2lb bag)
• 1 pint of chocolate ice cream for homemade shakes = $7.99
Total: $28.61 — almost exactly what I wasted on that fast-food trash.
With this haul, I could’ve made at least six real, juicy quarter-pound cheeseburgers with fresh buns, crispy fries, and thick, creamy shakes—all fresh, filling, and actually worth eating.

This Belfast McDonald’s is an absolute disgrace and insult to customers. They can’t get the most basic order right (no cheese), they serve two burgers with one paper-thin patty total, fries that taste like cold grease, and shakes that are watery slop.
If you want real food for your money, skip this dumpster fire. Go buy fresh ingredients and make your own meal at home. You’ll get better quality, better taste, and way more food for the same $28.
This McDonald’s should be ashamed to call that...

I visited the McDonald’s at 233 Shore Road, Belfast, on Friday, June 6, and it was nothing short of an utter disaster.
I ordered two Double Quarter Pounders, no cheese, with large fries and a large shake. While they got the “no cheese” part right, the rest of the order was a complete failure. The patties were paper-thin, dry, gray, and clearly reheated under a heat lamp. There was no way these could be quarter-pound patties — I effectively received two burgers with a single flimsy patty between them.
The fries were cold, limp, and greasy yet tasteless. The shake was watery, lacking any creaminess. This mirrors what dozens of other customers report online: missing items, cold and soggy food, and drinks that resemble diluted water rather than milkshakes. Machines for coffee and shakes frequently malfunction, and staff often fail to correct mistakes promptly, leaving orders incomplete or incorrect.
Service here is abysmally slow. Multiple reviews describe waits of 20–30 minutes, even for basic drive-thru orders, with staff appearing understaffed, overworked, or indifferent. Errors are routine — missing toppings, incorrect items, and forgotten drinks are standard rather than exceptions. Several patrons also note mismanagement of parking bays and a lack of basic cleanliness in the dining area, revealing negligence at every level.
The value is non-existent. I spent $28 on food barely fit for consumption, and countless other customers confirm similar experiences. The same amount of money could buy fresh, proper meals at home, highlighting how this location fails its customers in both quality and price.
This Belfast McDonald’s exemplifies corporate neglect and systemic incompetence. It is incapable of delivering consistent, edible food or even minimally competent service. From paper-thin burgers and cold fries to malfunctioning machines, forgotten items, and indifferent staff, this location shows contempt for the people who pay them.
Skip this location entirely. Buy fresh ingredients and prepare your own meal — you will get better food, better taste, and far more value. McDonald’s at 233 Shore Road should be ashamed to call what they...
