The Tavern, they lack in service to put it plainly. It took 10 min to get a cola and a menu with No one other than one other person...took another 10 to 15 min to get my order in. And when the food arrived another 20 plus min later it was overcooked... I gave it another attempt a few days later and was greated with faster service but the pasta was super over sauced and overcooked box noodles with a few chunks of meat, the appetizer was brought out on a metal toster type sheet... small amounts of toppings other than cheese, melted cheese was Hella hard and did not eat because the chips seemed like they had lived passed their prime. Both times I let the staff know this was unsatisfactory and was not given a discount or anything for that matter... so I would not suggestthe food at this establishment. It lacks and for the price it's just not there... Plus side was the bar and dining area was super clean and the drinks where made well...maybe a little stiff/ heavy-handed with the pouring at times but who really...
Read moreVery disappointed with our dining experience after someone at the Bimidji Visitor Center recommended this restaurant, which happened to be conveniently connected to our hotel. We arrived 33 minutes before closing, hungry and tired after a long drive on the Sunday evening of Labor Day weekend. No one was around to greet us and the place was freezing cold. Finally found the bartender who was scurrying around trying to shut down the place in a hurry. He shoved two menus at me and exclaimed that they were on "bar time" and we had exactly 3 minutes to order. He made us pay up front, so no tip for him and no opportunity to order drinks or desserts. We ate outside to stay warm, and the patio, tables and chairs were dirty--so was the restaurant for that matter, and the bathroom was a mess. The food came quickly and was okay. No one checked on us or offered water refills. We left feeling cold and neglected, just a bother to the bartender who obviously wanted to leave as soon...
Read moreThis is the second time I've tried The Tavern, the first time being several years ago. It has not improved. Waited for over twenty minutes to be initially served, ordered 2 appetizers immediately then waited another 20 - 30 minutes for Onion Rings and Mushrooms. Seven rings for $13, five mushroom caps the size of a quarter, and one the size of silver dollar for $14 was sad. As a chef and restaurateur, I am fully aware of food cost along with overhead, but the servings were paltry. You could count the fries served with burgers, a child sized portion. One burger plate had clearly had fries set on it, then removed when realized it was suppose to be curds. She had to wait for the curds. The Shrimp Mac & Cheese was served 5 minutes ahead of the remaining diners at our table and was not hot. The ribeye was plunked on top of its accompanying potato and vegetable, terrible plating. Will not be recommending this place to anyone. Very...
