JPs Pastry — Restaurant in Benson

I've only ever picked up a few items once, while traveling home from Camden, NC to Texas - but as the wife of a hobby gluten-free baker who loves to surprise everyone with "guess what? Thats gluten-free!) I was IMPRESSED!! My husband has it down tight on cakes, cookies, fry batter and certain pies (still working on perfecting the rest! 😁), but these guys have what looks like perfected almost EVERYTHING you can imagine in a baked product you can dream up in a gluten-free format. As stated, we only picked up a few items to try - if I recall correctly, it was a slicing bread, some rolls, and a slice each of cheese cake, key lime pie, & carrot cake. Everything was FABULOUS!! The only thing in that bunch my hubs has perfected is carrot cake & key lime pie. Though JP's was WONDERFUL, I'm biased & think my hub's is better 😉 - but, then again, he does make the carrot cake with one of my crowd-pleasing reduced sugar cream cheese frosting recipes, & we use a little less sugar & a little more lime for a real key lime pie with pucker factor....the way I like it 😁. We haven't been back through since last June, but when we are, we will be sure to pick up a load of goodies for the trip & to bring home! Thanks JP & Iz for creating a great stop for us along the way!! Who'd of ever thunk the little town of Benson, that I'd traveled through a few hundred times when I used to live in Eastern NC years ago, would get such a great forward-thinking & FABULOUS...

Aside from the mandatory mask requirement (that was almost a deal breaker for me, given I was the only one there), I fell in love with their selection of gluten free pastries, breads, rolls, muffins and sweets of all kinds. I've never been so overwhelmed with choices. Be prepared to pay for it, it is not cheap, but you can eat without worry of getting sick. For me, that was a great feeling. I haven't had a biscuit in years and had a fresh made egg and cheese that was so delicious I finished it before I left the parking lot! I highly recommend the cheese biscuits and the raspberry/cream cheese bread. They don't compare to anything you will find in a grocery store! You can freeze anything you buy in the bags you buy it in so if you go a little crazy and your eyes are bigger than your stomach like mine were, put it in your freezer and save it for later. Everything thaws great and tastes fresh baked after a quick trip to the microwave. No more grocery store...

Not just the best gluten free products around but just amazing baked goods period. MUST VISIT THE RETAIL SHOP!! More and more places have started carrying JPs baked goods but the actual store front offers many treats you might not find in one visit somewhere else. They are very good about keeping flavors current with the seasons. Pepperoni bread, mac n cheese, all cheesecake flavors (and there's a lot), chocolate cake, Hawaiian rolls... there's too many favorites to name!!! Something that definitely does NOT take any points out of my book for them but I'll just throw out there, I wish their hummingbird cake had bananas in it along with the pineapple and it would have been spot on. It was still a delicious cake, the spices we're perfect and so was their cream cheese icing. It made me so happy bc I haven't had hummingbird cake in over three years and it is one of my favorites, so I would still buy it...
