We found a fun little joint called Happy Poochie Eatery on Main Street in downtown Benton Harbor, Michigan. They have few indoor seats, a side patio and a park-like outdoor dining area in the back by the old shipping canal. Everything was super clean and well organized. We started off with The Chopper, an enormous salad featuring chicken, bacon, pasta, and Gorgonzola cheese mixed with romaine, red cabbage, and scallions. The sweet Italian dressing is spot on, offering just a subtle sweetness to contrast the salt in the bacon and cheese. The attention to detail is evident in the quality and balance of ingredients in the salads, wraps, sandwiches, and soups that are on its menu. Next up, was a sandwich called The Downtowner, which the owner said has quickly become a fan favorite. Packed inside a ciabatta roll you’ll find ham, turkey, bacon, and melted provolone graced with red onions, lettuce, tomato, mayo, and Dijon mustard. I found this ciabatta roll to be a little lighter and softer than many. Some European ciabatta rolls tend to be a little too dense with too much “chew” for a sandwich, but this was excellent. We finished with a weekly special…a sandwich cleverly named Asparageese, showcasing fresh local asparagus from Alex’s Veggies and paying homage to the geese who frequently show up in the canal. I must be honest, as a diehard carnivore, I would not have otherwise ordered this. Exploding out of the rye bread, we discovered asparagus, red onion, roasted red pepper and melted swiss cheese and a creamy dill dressing. At first bite, the rye bread and swiss had my taste buds saying “Reuben,” but then it took a delicious turn in a different direction. The sandwich burst with fresh flavors and savory notes. Next time you want to try something new and delicious for lunch, check it out…I’m sure you’ll leave with a happy pooch.

ADDENDUM: They are open for inservice. Rich & Lisa have a great thing going here. Only caveat is they are not open on weekends. The food is fantastic, and the service is friendly and accommodating. They have plenty of indoor seating, and a plethora of outdoor seating (weather permitting). The Cool Hand Cuke is still a favorite of mine, along with the Portofino Salad, and the Mr-Swiss-T sandwich. If you're in the neighborhood, you should absolutely stop in for lunch! Recently opened in the building with the (locally) famous “FOOD” sign out front, the Happy Poochie Eatery is a lunchtime place serving sandwiches, soups, and salads. I’ve only been there twice so far, and had the same item both times. The Cool Hand Cuke is a fantastic take on the little rye bread/cream cheese/cucumber appetizers from holiday parties. Light, refreshing, yet I felt plenty full afterwards. It’s currently only serving pick-up due to COVID, however their service is excellent. You should definitely give them a try for lunch!

Happy Poochie Eatery Food: 5/5 (fresh, tasty, great every bite) Service: 5/5 (extremely friendly, clean, and intentional) Atmosphere: 5/5 (clean, great vibe, want to eat there). Happy Poochie Eatery is good! I had their food about three times now, and I enjoyed the food every time. My favorite is the mushroom soup and the BC Wrapper. As a bigger guy, my only complaint was that my sandwich went too quickly, and I was disappointed that it was gone. However, the food is delicious, and I believe everyone who encounters this restaurant will enjoy the freshness and taste of every menu item. All in all, Happy Poochie Eatery is delicious! 😋

We went to happy poochies and order one sandwhich, one salad and got two beverages. The order came out to 33$ which was a little high but wanted to still try everything out. Got home and the sandwhich was tiny. My husband gave me the look where I knew we were going to have to get him something else to eat because that portion size would not work for some people. Especially paying 10$ for it. Flavor wise, he said it was tasty! And it looked very good. I got the Benton Market salad which was priced at almost 14 dollars. Nothing too special on it, but said in the menu it had pasta noodles in it. That intrigued me enough to get. When I opened up the container, no pasta in it… which was the reason I opted for it. Got 95% lettuce and 5% sprinkling of carrots, olives and peppers. I was really disappointed and bummed that we spent all that money for a very less than average experience. Plus side, the staff was very friendly and efficient. That’s why the experience gets a 3 star. They have great workers and a...

Placed an online order as a 1st time customer. I ordered the "Downtowner" minus onions, a bag of salt & vinegar chips, 2 chocolate chip cookies and an 🍊 Fanta. Placed seemed super busy from the parking lot but I easily found a spot right in front of a "Pick-up" window. I was so excited to see they offered this option for those who order ahead. My meal was ready in exactly 15 minutes from when I placed it on the Toast app. The lady at the window was very friendly and offered to wave me down if I wanted to wait in my car, and this was only because I was early. SUPER long review to say this was THEE VERY BEST SANDWICH I've EvER had in my 44 year's of life!!! I never sat that Sammy back down after I took my 1st bite! It was seriously so much more that I expected!! The quality of meat, bread, well everything because it was AMAZING 👏 I live about 35 minutes away but plan to be back to try more options 😋 Also don't skip out on the 🍪 woooo again AMAZING!!! Short, uncomplicated menu with food done at...
