So, I’ve have eaten at does twice at the restaurant. I got weird looks both times. my sister went to pick up an order once and said she got weird looks and that the manager was rude to her. As in he talked down to her .i asked her who it was that did that and she described the same guy i thought was loud and rude to me when my husband i went. some guy with glasses. The servers were nice. The place itself has a old wannabe tshirt store vibe. the food is ok. Not great to me.The meat needs more flavor in my personal taste. Now for my last 3 experiences ordering food from here through delivery services. They never get it right. First time i was missing fries. We live 20 minutes away and all they offered was to replace the fries and to have the driver go back. As you well know, the food delivery places cannot send a driver back unless you place another order. And who can afforded to place another order at DOEs with how expensive they are. They ended up promising to send more fries the next time we order. He went on to blame the food delivery service for not looking at the order, mind you they always place a sheet where they hand write the order and on it i can see they didn’t write down the fries. The second time we ordered they forgot the Bread we ordered…as in the extra bread we paid for. They didn’t send the complimentary bread nor the extra bread we paid for. Plus the fries were all soggy because they packed the meats in aluminum foil which juices spilled all over the fries, hence the sogginess. Their solution: Blame the food delivery service and to send the driver back or for us to come back ourselves to get a dry fries and bread. In both experiences i talked to the manager. I got the worse attitude from that guy. He was so rude and kept talking over me. Wouldn’t even let me get a word in edgewise. And btw, they didn’t send the extra fries with this 2nd order either. here is the latest delivery experience and last time i ever order from there. For some reason my husband loves to give the benefit of the doubt to some places and he asked me to order from here one last time..guess what? NO FRIES at all AGAIN and SOGGY bread AGAIN. this time one of the steaks was raw and cold.i called and the manager picked up.ARGH! i tried to explain what has happening again and he immediately went on to cut me off as i spoke and say to come back and pick up some fries and bread or to send the driver back. That the delivery service should have looked at the order before taking it. i couldn’t even tell him the meat was raw and cold. its like repeat recording of what happened the last 2 times. this time i had to cut HIM off and let him know that i don’t appreciate him not letting me get a word in edgewise or his always trying to offer a solution that is does not work for the customer. then i let him know that i would finally write them my review on google because we have given them quite a many opportunity to rectify our bad experiences. not 1 or 2 times , but 3 times on the delivery side alone, let alone when we actually were there and were given weird looks. Not trying to play the race card, but we were the only people of color there the times we were there.hopefully my husband will learn from at least these last 3 times not to eat or order from...
Read moreDoe's is a steakhouse that cannot produce consistently good steaks to match their price. I'll skip on the atmosphere.. you either love it, or you hate it. But ultimately you come to a place like this for the food. Our party of five experienced a wide sampling of their menu, between the appetizers (fried bread, tamales), salads, and entrees (filet, ribeye, salmon, chicken fingers, gumbo). Filet was ordered MR, ribeye MR/M. The appetizers were quite good. The drop biscuits / fried bread were fresh (admittedly begging for a little powdered sugar to realize their destiny as funnel cake); the tamales and homemade chili were a great pair and quite tasty. And then came the salads. No choice here for dressing other than what the house produces... which is essentially an oily, bitter mess. Everyone at our table took one bite, then slowly pushed them away. Reading back at so many other reviews with the same experience, I feel at this point it must be a running joke for this place to keep serving it up. Salads abandoned, I was still eager for an amazing steak. I was quickly underwhelmed. Both steaks came out a bit underdone, unfortunate for the huge, thick ribeye, which made it gristly instead of moist. But even worse, you'd typically expect such thick cuts of meat to be dry brined (pre-salted). Not only were these steaks not preseasoned, they were barely seasoned even as part of the cooking. After a few bites, I was already thinking about how I would be taking the steak home for next day resurrection and repair. As for the other entrees, I did not try the salmon but the person in our party who ordered it did kind of like it. However, the chicken fingers were apparently very salty and no one ate them (noting that at least one in my family tends to eat chicken fingers everywhere we go, these ranked at the bottom). Perhaps even most strange, the gumbo base was almost entirely tomato-paste-like. I love cooking Cajun food, and get there's a difference with creole style gumbo.. but this was not gumbo with tomatoes: this was tomato paste with bits of meat. I really wanted to root for Doe's. They're a bit of a local legend for steaks and other southern appetizers. Reading past reviews it is clear many people still enjoy this place. However it also seems clear something here is amiss in the kitchen, given such inconsistent production of their namesake entrees. I hope they can get it together, else legend may fade...
Read moreI have wanted to try Doe's Eat Place since 2011. Tonight was the night my fiancee and I got to sit down and see what the hype is all about. I'm was not only disappointed but I wouldn't come back here for a few reasons. All 3 drinks my fiancee had and the 3 that I had were not anything I would want to grace my lips again. She struggled to get them down. I just didn't think they were quality. I ordered 1.5lb t-bone steak. It cooked just the way I asked but only half was edible. It had so much fat and who knows what else in it you couldn't cut it with a knife. My fiancées steak was tasty. The tamales may be world class however I don't understand what the chili was for and 1 was all I could stomach to eat. There service was just okay. Drinks to awhile to get to us and I felt like i was being rushed to order. I like to enjoy my appetizer before I order my main course. When I mentioned the steak had a problem I was asked if I wanted them to put in back on the grill. UM no we have this national pandemic going on called Covid. Lets not stick my half eaten steak back on the grill. Something is wrong with that question on more than 1 level. Germs, covid, and how many other half eaten steaks are they putting back on the grill. The salad was just plain weird. Never had a salad with nothing but lettuce and some sort of lemon glazed dressing. The price was a bit shocking. I was prepared to spend 100 for my date and I but not close to 165 after leaving a tip. Especially when everything was subpar at best except for the shrimp's.
Positive: The blackened shrimps' was some of the best shrimp I have had in quite some time. They were delicious.
Overall the best part of the night was spending time with my soon to be bride. We made the best of what we could but the hype is not for us and Ill spend my...
