This little tiny Gourmet Grilled Cheese Restaurant will blow you away. I was totally unprepared for my experience. We were the first customers on a Saturday and my first thought was very negative. OMG what is this place, but my granddaughter had their sandwiches before and said just wait. The menu is tiny with seven different grilled cheese sandwiches. See the attached pictures. The walls are painted black with beautiful artwork and sayings. There are only about 8 black tables (a few 2 seater high tops, and a few regular 4 seaters). There are two gray comfortable stuffed chairs with a little coffee table in front. The help is courteous and kind and are all dressed in black. The atmosphere is very welcoming and open. Amazing enough even though the walls and tables are black. The restaurant has a light bright airy chic feeling. The music is super classical feel good music. My granddaughter and I each had the big cheese sandwiches which were served with a creamy thick rich tomatoe soup. So filling and I have to say the best grilled cheese and tomatoe soup I can remember having. By the time we left the place was filling up. I foresee this restaurant expanding. They definitely need more room. I will go back. Two things I wish they had was coffee and napkins that didn't smell like black pepper. It took hours to get rid of the smell from up my nose. People take your own napkins. Their napkins were a cute black and white...
Read moreThis restaurant is family owned and operated. The head barista Nick has many years of experience and makes the best coffee drinks in Berea. There is a healthy family atmosphere here as you might guess from the menu. Grilled cheese and tomato soup. How many ways can you think of to grill a cheese sandwich, or all the stuff that can be added to soup. I like to put cheese popcorn in my tomato soup. I love to grill p b & j always use real butter. Throw a few marshmallows and a chunk of Hershey's bar sprinkles of graham crackers and grill a s'mores sandwich. Berts Speak Cheesy is upscale but still easy casual dress. It's right next to Berea College and foothills bus route. At times a musician will show up and play music. The piano is out of commission and adds ambiance as is has a very nice finish. There is an electric fireplace and plush overstuffed chairs and sofas. The coffee bar is equipped with state of the art espresso machine and coffee brewer. French press is available for the ultimate coffee flavor. Children are happy because they serve ice cream and it is dog friendly. There is a tile floor. This restaurant is proven to be highly successful. I remember recently Nick made me a hot chocolate in a large cup and it was covered with whipped cream and fancied up with Carmel and chocolate drizzle and sprinkles...
Read moreThis place rocks!!! We went here on a whim and were very impressed with the interior which makes you feel like you are in someone's very stylish, cozy den. Decked out with couches, dark wood, books and a fireplace to name a few touches, it is very inviting and warm - it is very unique for a restaurant.
We went with the Bootlegger and the Thompson Hep Cat. Both sandwiches were cooked perfectly with a nice crunchy texas toast filled with ooey gooey cheeziness and packing a punch with bacon/beer cheese on the Bootlegger and a ranch cream cheese on the Hep Cat. These are not your Mom's kiddy grilled cheese! These are adult-themed with specialty flavors and toppings. The loaded baked potato soup was also really good, topped with cheese and bacon (of course) and the chips weren't half bad either!!
The owner came out to say hi and ask if everything was good, (Yes, yes it was VERY good) and to chat.
Prices were reasonable, atmosphere was fun, food was delish and we...
