Ami Sushi & Bar — Restaurant in Berkeley Heights

Yesterday, in the midst of terrible weather, I decided to take delivery of an order of sushi and sashimi. I always go to Ami Sushi to pick up, but this was my first experience with delivery. Doordash arrived ahead of schedule, but when I checked the order, I found a piece missing: one of my two Salmon Roe sushi. It's a favorite of mine, so I called the restaurant. I needed to return the call at 5:00 when I could speak with a manager. I did call, and when some solutions - like me coming there to pick up another piece - were proposed, I suggested that they just refund the cost of that piece. They agreed. Moments later, I got a call from a gentleman - I found out that he was the Bar Manager - advising me that the refund took place, and did I want to check my credit card to make sure. I said that I would and thanked him, mentioning that I was sad because the Salmon Roe is my favorite. He said, "It's mine too! I need to bring that to you!" I told him it wasn't necessary, but he said it was, and 20 minutes later he was at my door with not one, but the two pieces that comprise one order of Salmon Roe sushi. I actually got one extra! I was blown away by the service!!! I loved the sushi, and now, I'm a devoted, forever customer of Ami...

Was very impressed with this place when I stopped by for lunch early on a Sunday. The restaurant is very big, there's a huge seating area downstairs, they have additional seating upstairs and there's outdoor seating as well. There is also a dedicated parking lot behind the building.

Everything looks updated and clean, very nice aesthetic. The staff was very nice and attentive the whole time. They have a decent sized menu, not the biggest selection of rolls I've seen but enough variety that there should be something for everyone. As a vegetarian there were a handful of options for me as well, but I wouldn't mind seeing more. There were pretty standard, avocado roll, cucumber roll, sweet potato roll etc. The most interesting roll I was avocado/peanut so I'd love to see a little more experimentation with the veggie rolls. That being said the rolls were very good and nothing disappointed.

Extremely reasonably priced as well and during the week there are lunch specials where you can get 2 rolls plus a soup or salad for $14. (You can do more rolls as well I just can't quite remember the increased pricing).

My husband and I had dinner at Ami Sushi for the first time, and we are definitely looking forward to returning to try more of the menu—highly recommended without reservation! Following an appetizer, we ordered an assortment of both sushi and sashimi as well as a Yaki Udon noodle entrée and dessert. Other than sharing a warm sake, we did not order from the bar, but it looked very well stocked, with a lot of specialty cocktails. The service was friendly and attentive, and all of the food was delicious and beautifully presented—the fish was melt-in your mouth fresh; everything was tasty. The menu offers an exceptional variety of sushi and sashimi, poke bowls, noodle dishes, soups, salads, vegetarian and non-vegetarian choices, and desserts (the green tea mocha ice cream was delicious), as well as a children’s menu. The two floor restaurant space has extensive and well-spaced seating – easy to carry on a conversation, unlike a lot of other restaurants.
