The Line Coffee — Restaurant in Berkeley

What a bright spot in Berkeley! I remember when it was possible to create a friendly + warm relationship with small business owners. Believe it or not, we have our own Tom in the neighborhood. IMO we have to appreciate the human kindness, wherever possible! On to the quality of the goods! Honestly, my usual order is the iced coffee as an occasional treat. I choose to spend my hard-earned money on value items. BUT: I had the chance to try one of his puff pastry delights recently. OMG the first to last bite was heavenly, I am not exaggerating! I will only spend my money on something I can’t prepare myself. Wow! You know only someone who truly loves and enjoys food can create such a delicious treat! Thanks Tom!

UPDATE: one word: PIZZA -- I have been restraining myself from ordering one every day since I first tasted. My test to know if a pizza is worth it is to order the Margherita -- every ingredient must be great! Tom's sauce is out...

Really friendly staff plus great products. Giant airy quiche filled with toppings like sun dried tomatoes, onion and mushrooms. Super hearty and a perfect high protein snack. The mushroom empanada is also super yummy. So is the chicken curry empanada. It is $6.50 but you get what you pay for! They are large sized and cooked to perfection. They warm it up so the crust and insides are nice a hot. It’s was the perfect blend of sauce and topping with the bitterly flaky crust. Iced coffee is one of the best in the neighborhood. Don't hate me, but honestly, this isn't the best coffee I've had in Berkeley. I've come twice now and experienced the same thing. :(

Unfortunately the coffee (Most important part) falls short for me. I'm not sure if it's the roaster or what, but the coffee isn't a very pleasant experience. Overall, the coffee is pretty bitter and charred and not in a good way. The pastries are good and I appreciate the selection of food, but again, that's not exactly why you'd visit a "coffee shop".

I'd say revisit the roasting process and make a few adjustments. However, I'd still give it 3 stars overall and I do wish them...
