801 Southern Kitchen and Pancake House — Restaurant in Bermuda Run

We have been dining here at least weekly for as long as they have been open. The serving staff are amazing! A distraction has always been the noise including the kitchen staff hollering at the servers. This week an error was made and caught in the kitchen on one of our 4 orders. All our meals were being held, pending fixing the error. We requested the ready meals be brought because one of us had to go to work. Those 3 meals were eaten - while other diners came in, dined and left - without the missing meal being delivered. Finally a request was made that the meal be placed in a to-go box. After another wait it was finally delivered. We were there for a total of 2 hours. The first bite from the to-go box included a crunch onto a very large piece of egg shell. (The picture is of the larger pieces of recovered shell with yellow from the hollandaise sauce.) The next morning one of our party went back to talk to the manager, not realizing she was on site during the incident. Instead of being understanding of our experience, she stated she was aware of the incident, including the kitchen error. Her excuse was, “We were very busy!” She was told our server had gone to kitchen to try to get the order and she said that was “breaking the rules. Servers do not approach the kitchen unless shouted at to pick up.” She also denied that there was any way egg shell could have been in the to-go box because she saw the egg being poached. No remorse at all for any part of our poor experience! Her parting words were that they have plenty of customers and won’t miss our business. We had heard good recommendations from the staff at the Emergency Department across the street. My wife had just been discharged, and we happily went based on the recommendation. We got there a little after 1:00 and were seated promptly by a friendly hostess. We sat down, looked over the menu, and waited. We watched as the crew were cleaning tables and other customers received their food, and other customers received their bills, but nobody came to even get our drink order.

At this point, we were almost ready to leave after close to 15 minutes. Finally, a waitress (who I later found wasn't our waitress) asked if anyone had asked us for our drink order. I told her that we hadn't, and she quickly took our drink order and passed it onto our actual waitress. Our waitress came back with our drinks and took our order. We had a pleasant meal, and she set the bill down. Had she asked, we probably would have gotten a dessert to share. However, we did ask for a box for my wife's meal. Once again, after that bill was on our table, we became an afterthought. I had to go to the front of the restaurant to ask for a box.

I told the lady who checked us out about our service, especially since it was our first time there. She was apologetic and said that she would let the manager know.

It has been a little while since visiting this establishment. The food is still really good, but the atmosphere changed. The hostess and I’m not sure if the gentleman helping seat customers was a host as well or just helping out, but they should consider placing them elsewhere in the business. They lacked any kind of warmth or friendliness that would entice anyone to return if it were not for the food. I also saw him be rude to our waitress. The cashier was also incredibly unfriendly, did not say one word when checking out, not a, “Hi, how was everything?”Just the total and if we wanted to leave a tip, nothing after. The lady they used to have was so friendly and kind; consistently. Our waitress was very sweet. I’m not sure if they have changed hands, but regardless, get people who are the face of your business who are friendly and courteous to patrons paying money to eat at your establishment as good food will only go so far.
