I went in today to get some pub food and a flight as I've been in before when the owner Dana was there, but today a spoiled entitled brat who didn't want to be there was working by himself. I watched him spend 5 minutes with his back turned to everyone to put sauce on one pizza. Meanwhile he had an annoyed customer standing by the register waiting to pay, me waiting to be acknowledged and just two more customers waiting on refills. Still, he just lingered on for another 5 minutes to top 2 pizzas. Then he finally went over to the customer who was waiting to pay and chatted it up with him for several minutes. 15 minutes after sitting down he finally comes over to us and with a pouty voice asks if anyone needs anything. I voiced my disapproval over having to waste away at the bar while he moved with no urgency and a don't care attitude. I told him the owner wouldn't accept this and he retorted by defiantly saying he didn't see me and if I didn't like it i could call the owner and tell him my problems. He then said "my name is Justin and you can tell him exactly what happened here today" After that I figured I wasn't getting served and told the boy he just cost the owner money, and then I left. It's a shame this punk just cost a guy who works so hard when he's there to build his brand, so I'll edit this post on one condition. Put this kid out of his misery and send him home because he hates his job and his life. He doesn't belong nor can he handle being in the hospitality industry. I will also never spend anymore money at Kaktus if he's there. I'm sure the other customers feel the same way as they were visibly annoyed too.
Thanks for addressing this so quickly and I'm sure this is an isolated incident, but I don't see him having any ability to work unsupervised. The last time I was in I believe he was there working with you so he obviously can pick up the slack. His lack of multi tasking and his inherently entitled attitude won't prevent this from happening again but hopefully it doesn't strike the next customers who experiencing it like it did me. I give you and Kaktus brewery 5 stars but under his watch it will always only get one. I'll change it to 3 stars to meet in the middle, and next time I'll call ahead to ensure he is...
Read moreThe definition of a hole-in-the-wall restaurant. You’d never see it by driving by. You turn onto a dirt road with potholes into what almost looks like a shantytown. Parking is in unmarked spots in the dirt parking next to the building.
You walk into the brewery, then take an immediate left into the restaurant. From there is attached patio seating with a small stage for live events.
Our group got an assortment of pizzas. The 7” pizza came with a balsamic vinaigrette salad, though they forgot the dressing on both our salads.
I ordered the wild spicy elk pizza, which came with red onion, mozzarella, mushroom, and a truffle oil drizzle. I asked twice for the truffle oil to not be added to mine, but it came with it anyway. The elk was elk link sausage cut into pieces about triple the thickness of standard pepperoni. The pizza wasn’t anything exciting. 3/5.
I also tried a slice apiece of: Pua’a (a Hawaiian, but with pulled pork, hoisin and marinara sauce, mozzarella cheese, and pineapple): Delicious and an interesting sauce flavor profile. Definitely a 5/5.
Quacker (duck sausage, bell peppers, spinach, and mozzarella): I didn’t love this one. It seemed to be lacking something. Instead of the breast they usually use, they used cut sausage links this time. 2.5/5; I would not get this one again, but duck on pizza is interesting.
Red Pumpkin (pumpkin squash, goat cheese, marinara, pine nuts, and red chili drizzle). Delicious! I’d get this one again for sure. I never thought of squash, goat cheese, or pine nuts on a pizza, but it works very well. 5/5.
I got an apple cider, which was smooth and sweet. It wasn’t overly sweet or too sharp, which some breweries fall into.
Overall, an interesting experience. Two pizzas were hits with me, while I’d pass on the other two again. The service was fine; they don’t seem to focus on the details (providing salad dressing, guests having to ask for silverware, or making requested modifications), so diners will likely need to be more assertive than I was in...
Read moreRude Employees/ No Service /Will Not Return. We revisited Kaktus last evening for the Desert Darlings performance, which was great however, Kaktus is not. First, they used to have a nice wine selection and now they only offer 1 red wine. We ordered a Pepperoni, green chili, mushroom, pineapple, and olive large pizza. What we received was a green chili, pineapple, and a few scattered mushrooms. My Husband was very hungry and did not want to wait for the correct pizza to be made as it was taking quite awhile. I was not at the table when it was delivered so I went up to the bartender as there was absolutely zero service as you had to get your own drinks from the bar as well as ordering food. I advised her of the incorrect pizza given and she just said, well your Husband did not want to wait for another one. I advised her this is not right and we should receive what we ordered and paid for. I made the comment that since the cook has to make the correct pizza he was going to spit in it. The bartender nodded her head and agreed with me and I said to her so, your agreeing that he will spit on it and she nodded her head again and agreed. Unbelievable how rude. Then when our correct pizza was delivered to our table, as they would do that at least, the food runner put the pizza on the table and said, is this good enough for you? Really?? I said to her we didn't receive the correct pizza initially and she replied that she knew. Again, how unbelievably rude that this would be said when it was their fault and obviously she was put out that she had to deliver a pizza. So, we will not ever return to Kaktus as there are many more Breweries with pizza that actually have wait service, care about their customers, and do their...
