Y'know...I hate to say this because I used to Love Michael Anthony's and everything they offered, but they must be under new Mgmt., have totally new Cooks [I cannot call them Chefs]...something...because they have completely changed! Their Pizza [delivered] was a horrid mess, with seemingly seriously aged, little tiny, sparse bits of sausage, and really old mushrooms, very little, unsavory sauce, very little cheese...It was worse than a Pizza Hut, Papa John's, Dominic's, et al! But I made the horrible mistake of having a Lasagna dinner delivered. It was horrendous...absolutely awful! It was practically sort of a pasta soup, placed in a thin sheet of cheap aluminum foil, and then placed in a square, styrofoam, to-go container, and I got a little torn chunk of foil in just about every bite, which was virtually tasteless...both the Lasagna and the foil! They forgot the Salad Dressing for the tiny Dinner Salad, in which the lettuce was, of course, nicely browning...no big deal...I have Salad Dressings at home, but it's the principal at that point! Now...I believe in "forgive and forget," and I'm all for giving 2nd and 3rd chances, but I'm going to wait a while before trying them...
Read moreI knew I was in trouble when the invitation said Michael Anthony's. I mean momma always said "never trust a man with two first names," and boy was she right! Like most old standards in the area, the building, decor and staff are old and tired and I think the only thing that's changed in 30 years is the slot machines in the bar area...the old timers playing them look like they ain't seen the light of day in forever either, (just sayin). Went to a shower on Saturday and found out that pretty much everyone that went was bent over their toilets by the next evening. Really though what could I expect when the party was herded into a side room that angles down to a narrow little doorway like a cattle chute. MOO, CLICK, BANG. The pizza was like some freaky culinary mob hit for all the guests, and they say Domino's has the death disk? No shortage of blaming others though, "Must've been grandma's cupcakes that did you in or that box of cookies from the bakery, but not our food." Well MA's I got a suggestion, call Robert Irvine, his $10G's and his big old sledgehammer in and join the 21st century already. And don't forget to listen to his advice about...
Read moreKept driving past Michael Anthony's restaurant on Ogden Avenue in Berwyn - so we checked out their menu & photos online and it seemed like a cute place. We were a party of five adults early on a Thursday nite and not a big crowd at all. We were served in the dining room, although they have a lively bar area and a "beer garden" out back. The interior is rather dimly lit, but it's comfortable with some interesting (but dated) photos and decor, like something out of your Aunt's 1970's basement. The menu is varied, including sandwiches whole dinners and pizza... we ordered soft drinks and two large pizzas and they came very quickly and to perfection! Thin cracker-style crust with yummy cheese & pepperoni and a cheese & sausage. All five of us were very happy with our meal - literally some of the best thin crust pizza we've had. Would describe it as a true homestyle pizza. The two large-sized pies provided enough leftovers for a small lunch or two. The soft drinks were larger sized and we could have gotten refills. Server was attentive. All in all a nice place for a casual meal. We will be going back to try some other menu...
