Birmingham Wings & Waffles — Restaurant in Birmingham

First pulling up to Wings and Waffles in Birmingham you see a small quaint building, entering the establishment we were greeted by the owner himself, can’t remember his name unfortunately but his vibrant personality and his love for what he does I do remember. He went over the menu with us and we decided to go with the 16 Piece tailgate meal for two people which comes with, 16 traditional bone in or bone out wings, A HEAPING serving of fries that come with a variety of different seasonings you can have on them, 2 drinks AND 2 waffles made fresh in house that can come with a variety of different glazes/toppings.

The wings you can choose two different flavors so that’s what we did, I got the Buffalo Lemon Pepper wings and my girlfriend got the Mustard Maple Glazed wings. They were cooked perfectly. Juicy, tender, really a delightful wing just by itself really, But the sauces OOOH the Sauces! The buffalo lemon pepper wings, they were a good combination and balance of a Bite of Lemon Pepper first then a little heat to finish the wing off. The Mustard Maple Glaze wings were Savory and Sweet, first the Mustard comes through with a tangy savory flavor and then the maple comes through with the sweetness that of my girlfriend.

FINALLY, The waffles…. light.. fluffy… beautifully cooked.. We chose to have ours glazed with their house made glaze (like a glaze a donut would have on it, BUT WAY BETTER)

🔸Okay so first let’s get into the fries. They weren’t my favorite but they’re edible. However, I probably won’t get the fries again. Now if we can get a crinkle cut fry with a little seasoning salt, whew!!! We’ll be talking business. I’m picky when it comes to fries, LOL!

🔸Now let’s talk about those Churo Waffles. They were so good!! The cinnamon on the top gave me all the life I needed. Definitely sub the fries for the waffles when you order! They come with 2 in the box.

🔸Okay last but certainly not least. The wings! Yes, yes, and yes again! The Maple Honey Mustard wings were so good, omg. Not too much sauce, but just enough. I don’t like a saucy wing but you can ask for heavy sauce if that’s what you prefer. The Lemon Pepper wings were delicious as well! I had both flavors fried hard of course, (y’all know how WE do, haha!), and they didn’t disappoint.

Quality is slipping. I first visited in the fall of last year and the food was great. However, I went yesterday and did not enjoy the food or experience. (1) What I thought was a $16 combo, turned out to be $22 because I was charged more than the price on the menu and because of various upcharges I wasn't aware of (my husband paid the bill before I could question why the total was off). (2) The chicken tenders on my sandwich were sliced thin and fried to make it appear to be more food than it really was. Also, my slice of tomato was all inner skin from the bottom of the tomato which I always discard when slicing tomatoes. (3) The churro waffle was very greasy.

The staff is friendly and seem like nice people so I really hope they improve. Please stop skimping on the sandwiches, fix the prices on your menu, and let people know when they ask for things that result in upcharges. I definitely didn't walk away feeling like what I had was worth...
