I showed up with a group of ~20 during night time hours to celebrate a friends birthday. During this time, 2 of our friends were kicked out. No reason at all other than the fact that they were Asian. They were very respectable while at the establishment and spent a considerable amount of money while in the bar. They were kicked out for “jumping the fence to enter the establishment.” They both walked in with us, waited through the line, and both above age (the bouncer triple checked IDs during the process of them getting kicked out), and without a cover charged at the bar.
After further evaluation from bartenders and bouncers, the two were kicked out due to the complaint of a single man at the bar. Personally, if a single man at the bar can get two individuals kicked out due to their race, it is not an establishment worth attending.
I, nor the group of 20 I attended with, will be visiting this establishment again. There are much better and more respectable establishments in Birmingham, Alabama. Don’t waste...
Read moreWe love the derby!! My coworkers and I have been coming here for almost a year now and love all of the bartenders, they are all so sweet to us. However, the past two times we have been there, this police officer has been extremely rude to us. He started ushering everyone to the door at 1:20 when they close at 2 but we had all just ordered drinks and were just finishing them as fast as we could after he told us that. While we were finishing them he was standing right behind us watching us and telling us we needed to hurry and leave. He then grabbed a beer out of my boyfriend’s hand and threw it away. We had not been rude to him at all we just informed him we will be out of here soon. Then he walked us to the door and when we walked away he said “Have a good night, don’t come back”. This was extremely disrespectful. My friends and I are regulars at the Derby, always tip very well, are close to the bartenders, and never...
Read moreHad a 40th karaoke birthday party here. Bartenders were great, atmosphere was tons of fun, outdoor area really cool. The lady running karaoke was rude to every single person in our group (we collectively spent at least north of a thousand dollars—probably twice that if I had to guess). I bartended in Tuscaloosa for years at the literal busiest place in town and am consistently polite every single day of my life and she was rude repeatedly to our whole party. I personally said please and thank you and was kind and respectful every interaction and was still talked to like a dummy.
I wouldn’t let this discourage me from going because we had a great time overall and I am not a miserable enough human to let one bad attitude negatively affect a fun night otherwise but someone needs to learn how to talk to people.
Also this place had far more talent than your average karaoke bar—tons of...
