GENERAL — Restaurant in Birmingham

I think the vibe of the restaurant is great. My issue is that it was 30 minutes (not exaggerating). Our order was to go bc we were on lunch break and didn't want to be late returning. I think for the price, the portions are kinda lacking. The pasta salad side came in a 2 oz portion cup for $2.75 and honestly for 5 noodles and to pieces of tomato it was kinda sad. The taste would good but it was seriously two bites. The chicken salad "scoop" is another problem. While the taste was not for me, it was a very mid and all I could taste was the craisins and the dill. The BLT was good but the bread was the main focus and the tomato jam. Also a can soda was $2.75. For 2 BLTs, two sides of pasta salad, a scoop of Chicken Salad, and a diet coke was $38. The quality and value were just not there for me. I wish them the best of luck and I do not mean this to be mean, I just left feeling unsatisfied and not much to show for an over $40 lunch...

I rarely write negative reviews but I have to talk about this one because I had been looking forward to going for so long and I unfortunately won't be returning. There were mice running around the restaurant and holes in the walls that the mice lived in. It's disgusting to think about. The food was so expensive but you barely get any food and it tasted terrible. The veggie wrap is just lettuce and maybe 2 grape tomatoes sliced in half and a few tiny cold mushrooms wrapped in a flour tortilla. The service was friendly, but slow. The atmosphere was cute but very cramped. Dogs are allowed inside so there was a lot of barking that echoed in there. Saying that, it's not a great place for people with ASD or anyone wanting to have a chat, or do work for that reason. I love Shoppe and the General store, so I was so excited to try the cafe side of things. The setting is the most perfect environment for studying/brunch/date/really anything! The interior design of the General store is so beautiful and unique. The hazelnut latte I got tasted perfect and I had the best time studying there. The cafe and store staff were so kind and wonderful. My only disappointment was in the food I ordered. I got the croque monsieur and it felt like I was eating greasy, hot ham and cheese on white bread. I was very underwhelmed and that is what has made me feel hesitant to return. The bakery items looked tasty, so maybe it was what I ordered. For this I have to take off 1 star, but I really hope to return and have a different experience.
