SIDEBAR — Restaurant in Birmingham

A friend of mine was treated very unfairly at this bar. After waiting in line to order drinks, the bar tender was extremely rude and unpleasant. Our drinks were very watered down, and my friend politely asked the bar tender if she could remake his drink because it tasted as if the soda had gone flat. She retorted that "if you don't like how I make my drinks leave" as she threw his money back at him. He then requested to speak with a manager, instead of being allowed to speak with a manager he was escorted out of the bar by security. The only explanation given for him being forced to leave the bar was that it was a "private establishment". Our entire group was thoroughly embarrassed and confused about the situation. As medical students, we often go out in large groups after exams or to get a break from studying. Needless to say, we will never again bring our business to Sidebar again and will spread the word about the rude, unprofessional, and...

Sidebar is a great place for a crew. The atmosphere is energetic and fun, the bar is spacious, and the dance floor is lit. I give in three stars because of two drawbacks: One, they blast the music from the dance floor throughout the entire bar, making conversation a shouting match to see who can say 'WHAT' the loudest. That said, it's a solid playlist and the outdoor areas are dope. Two, the drinks arent exactly a selling point. They have a decent selection of local draft beers, but other than that it's wells and shots. Asked for a gin and tonic and received a gin and soda water. Went back and asked for tonic and received a gin and soda water with lime.

I ordered one whiteclaw and was told they are $6 each. I paid with my card and was not given a receipt. I returned and ordered another $6 whiteclaw and again was not given a receipt. I came back for a third whiteclaw and started a tab and then came back to close my tab and left a small tip with the receipt I received for one drink. Yet, on my bank account I have three charges for $12 and some change each. I waited a week and these charges have not fallen off.

Make sure you get a receipt here because it seems that the bartenders will tip themselves or charge you for someone else’s drink.

It’s not much money but it’s a shady practice...
