First visit. Recommended by a friend who visits Bishop. No wait. It is a smallish dining area with only tables & chairs. I had the table to myself. Prompt, polite, helpful staff service. Though they are running around a bit and if it’s busy, the two serving staff address requests with a smile after a reasonable time to help guests who were already waiting and who need a table or to order take-out & their food or bill in a timely manner. I ordered the Black Garlic Tonkotsu Ramen w / Pork Belly protein. I also ordered the Takoyaki appetizer, but they were out tonight. Not sure if that’s just octopus availability currently, in the local market: a similar, listed appetizer was on the dry-erase board at a local Bishop sushi restaurant a little ways back, but it was also sold out. I was told to try the sushi rolls here, as well as the ramen. Any of the other appetizers or sushi options weren’t what I was in the mood for or were too much food for one person / would not travel well. I appreciated that the server offered the option of picking something else when he returned to apologize for the unavailability of the Takoyaki. The ramen was plenty of food anyway. I had been craving ramen and hadn’t had it for a while. I can’t have high sodium cheat meals like this too often with my current dietary restrictions. I try to make them worth it. Off the bat, the broth was not too salty, which made it a little less flavorful than I imagined. But, is better for me & my health. The pork-belly & soft-boiled egg are often another favorite element of ramen. Both were decent, but not quite as flavorful as I hoped either. The remaining ingredients were not offered in a generous supply in the ramen presentation. But it was plenty of food & basically fixed my craving. I took a microwaveable to-go bowl, without any fuss or wait. My check was surprisingly under what I’d budgeted for & was also delivered promptly. I finished most of the remaining leftovers later that same night. Reheating the bowl worked great. Prices for what I got, especially, were very reasonable for a chain ramen restaurant. Would visit again, but even acknowledging the charming & intimate setting and great customer service, the food was the only score lower than a 5, (3 stars for me). I saw some reviews say this is authentic, solid ramen. Others argue not as authentic. For my limited knowledge, it seemed like a decent...
Read moreTourist trap, I usually love falling for these because I know what I'm getting into but in this case, I was deeply saddened by the lack in quality of the food and the overall vibes of this establishment.
I have no problem paying $20+ for a bowl of ramen or pho because I understand the effort and time that a good broth needs. But I'm afraid this place may just be using a basic pork base and seasoning packets for their different ramen flavors. The miso broth is using a pork base and the only exception is the vegan/vegetarian option for broth. Even then, it tasted like vegetable stock from a paper carton with an added dash of pepper and msg.
I fear this ramen restaurant is better off just using powdered broths, as it may cut down on their overhead and save time considering the quality would be the same if not better. On the subject of budgets, I was charged 50¢ to have the chili paste on the side rather than in the broth. I believe that speaks for itself.
The noodles were starchy and over-boiled, the broth was poorly made, and the atmosphere inside felt like what you'd imagine a highschool freshman would produce after having the crazy idea to open a Godzilla themed ramen shop.
Our server was sweet and the gentlemen in the kitchen seemed hard at work, this is in no way a personal attack on any employees, I am simply airing my grievances and opinions concerning the management and execution of what I had...
Read moreI drive 395 often and this has been my usual stopping point. I stopped by today for a bite to eat and upon arriving no one was at the front, i grabbed a menu to browse while I waited, once the server arrived, she asked what i wanted to order, i told her i needed a minute to look over the menu, i asked if i could change the karaage bento box to teriyaki chicken, she said unfortunately they come as is, okay fine, i then order a teriyaki bowl with spicy tuna rolls, she states its for dine in only and i explained i would be dining in and she apologized and said she wasn’t sure if i wanted to go or not (she never asked me) she did ask if i wanted to pay now or after the meal, i paid then since I was already standing there, when i was seated she brought me a water right away. Once i received my order I was very disappointed, i paid $20 for a bowl of rice with a couple pieces of chicken, i never got my spicy tuna rolls so i got up and left. Sadly I will not be returning, aside from poor service it’s drastically overpriced for the quality and quantity of...
