Goodstuff never disappoints. While the sides almost always fall short of my expectations, the main feature - the barbecue - is quite good.
I smell it smoking when I do my laundry, calling like a siren with promises of delights for my tastebuds. I finally obeyed that call, and was not disappointed.
I ordered the homemade root beer and a 3 meat combo meal.
The root beer was delightful - the right flavour and the right sweetness. If you are gonna drink sugar water, you might as well drink good sugar water, and this? This is great sugar water.
The meats I chose were Ribs, Pulled Pork, and Smoked Turkey. I wanted Hot Links, but they were not ready and I was sad. The sides I chose were beans and candied sweet potatoes with complimentary corn bread.
The ribs were done well - a good amount of meat and a good amount of flavour. They were good with and without sauce, so 3 cheers there.
The pulled pork was also well executed. A nice sized pile, it takes sauce well, but again - it stands on its own as well.
The turkey was on the drier side, but it was still tasty. Of the meats, it benefitted the most from added sauce.
The sides? That is where Goodstuff seems to have a weakness.
The beans were okay. They did not have enough flavour in them - I ended up adding sauce, hot sauce, bits of meat... they were edible, but not better than my mom's. Also, she does salt pork with her beans, so it is a brazenly unfair comparison.
The candied sweet potatoes were fine as well. The potatoes seemed to have been roasted and then some brown sugar and probably butter and maybe syrup of some kind added. They were not as good as sweet potato casserole with marshmallows on top, and once again, I'm walking in here with unfair expectations.
The corn bread was excellent, full stop.
So, in summary, I still haven't found the sides I actually like at Goodstuff aside from the sweet potato tater tots and cornbread. Someday I'll find my ideal second side. Just not today.
Would I go back?
Certainly. I actually want to try more sides and find the one that I like. The actual barbecue is delicious, and if I could tear myself away from meat combos, I'd love to dive into their burger selection.
Goodstuff is a good place to eat. Once you find the sides you like the best, you will have a barbecue place that you may never want...
Read moreWell I don’t know where to start but here it goes , First I’d like to mention I have known Kevin (owner) Since we were kids so I don’t want this review to seem like I’m biased but Damm this food and place rocks ! As a person who loves some good BBQ this restaurant knocks it out of the park and then some. The minute you arrive in the parking lot the smell of smoked meats engulfs your nose and makes you feel like your in the south for that real “ down home bbq” Every cut of meat is so flavorful and tender from the brisket (my favorite) to the ribs and so on . The Mac and cheese is great and the fries actually have a nice potato taste not like most places . The inside is very nice and the amount of sauces available is nice, I like them all. From the staff and the food this place really checks all the boxes and I can’t say that about some other restaurants. Kevin and his team have done wonders at this place and I’ll continue to come back as often as I can when I’m in the area . I love Tennessee for their bbq and this place is like being in Tennessee, it’s very much spot on to the authentic southern bbq. I went yesterday (oct 9th ) for my 37th birthday and it was amazing as always. My girlfriend said “ ok birthday boy where would you like to go eat ?” And without hesitation I said “ Goodstuff smokehouse!” I had the brisket dinner with fries and Mac and cheese, which comes with a piece of cornbread. I ate it so fast I don’t think I had time to chew it . 10 out of 10 . My girlfriend had the brisket chili which she loved and we ordered a full rack of ribs ( to take home) She even got their homemade cream soda which was fantastic. Overall if you want something that’s really satisfying and delicious I highly recommend Goodstuff Smokehouse . Keep up the awesome work...
Read moreDefinitely the best smoked food I have ever had. It was my first time going there lastnight and I was impressed. Was well greeted when my gf and I first walked in. After getting sat we tried their home made root beer Delicious! Made us craving more after we left (wish they sold bottles of it). We then saw the 3 types of bbq sauces they had at the table so we where able to try the best ones we liked to order the food correctly with that sauce. My gf got pulled pork sandwich and French fries. Fries where definitely fresh cut potatoes fantastic and the pork was so tender it almost melted just sitting in the bread! I ordered the prime rib, wish Mac and cheese and coleslaw and of course had to see what the cornbread was all about. My oh my was it delicious. Prime rib was cooked perfect with a slight smoked flavor but you still tasted the absolute freshness of the meat. Cut with a spoon! Mac and cheese definitely made in house, the shells not squishy and watery at all cooked to perfection with the right amount of cheese. Coleslaw was perfect to top my prime rib with. But THE CORN BREAD! OH MY CORN BREAD. Taste 11/10 asked if I needed butter said sure, and lol I did not need that at all so flavorful and moist wasn’t dry at all! In a good way was perfectly held together but you sure didn’t need to butter to eat it or swallow it. Best restaurant I have been too in my life. Will always come back when people ask me where to go. Thank you GOODSTUFF SMOKEHOUSE for a perfect experience 20 out...
