Big Boy Submarine — Restaurant in Bloom Township

I’ve been a regular customer here since I moved to Illinois a few years ago and by now I know not to come a second before 7. I’m not sure if it’s just a placebo affect or if the day time staff is truly this terrible but everytime I eat here before 7 something always goes wrong, whether that my order being completely wrong or dealing with the rude staff or even having to listen to the manager make a fool of themselves with needless outbursts in the back. I cannot stress enough how poor the 12-6 service is in this place. And it only gets marginally better during dinner hours. I will say the only bright lights in this dark pit of a “resturant” are the garlic butter fries and this super polite server with a bob hairdo I can’t quite remember her name but she had piercings, dark hair and everytime I saw her she was smiling and delivering great service. Big Boy was recommended to me by a coworker who had nothing but good things to say about the Corned Beef sandwich and garlic cheese fries from here. Intrigued, I put it on my list of places to try where it sat for months before I finally visited during the summer of 2025. I really have to take what my coworker suggests more carefully from now on, this was extremely unenjoyable. Garlic Cheese Fries were crazy salty, and I couldn't even finish these. The fries themselves were probably similar to a Checkers/Rallys, but because of the salt overload, it killed what was probably a decent potato. Corned Beef sandwich was probably the worst Corned Beef Sandwich I've ever had. The beef was very poor quality, like Buddig brand lunchmeat. Stopped into this place Saturday for late night dining. They were about a half hour away from closing. There were a few people in there waiting to order and waiting on their orders. I walked in and ordered right away. I had their famous garlic fries and the chicken pita. I got my food in less than 5-7 minutes from ordering. They were pretty quick about getting orders filled and out of the door. They still have partitions up between the employees and the customers to keep everyone safe and the place looked clean. The garlic fries were decent and the chicken pita was decent not extremely delicious but I would eat here again. Their sun sandwiches look pretty good too I think I’ll try their turkey sub next time.
