Thomas Hooker Brewery in Bloomfield, CT sneakily created TWO food challenges last November that have eluded my radar. They were only brought to my attention when the one and only Randy Santel and Katina Eats Kilos added it to their NE tour. Not only this, but Randy even invited me out to try of them alongside him!
The two challenges offered at Thomas Hooker are either a giant burger and tot platter (which Katina annihilated) or a decked out 5lb pizza (which Randy and I each ate). Both of these each have a brief time limit of 25 minutes in order to win the meal free, t shirt, gift card, as well as a free drink. Failure results in public mockery (aka $40 bill).
This 5lb pizza challenge consists of one pound of dough, one pound of sauce, one pound of cheese, one pound of pepperoni/sausage/bacon, and one pound of peppers and onions. Yummy. On top of being able to eat an entire pizza in 25 minutes, you must be at least 21 years old because the challenge also includes a glass of one of their craft beers or CBD infused seltzers. I went with their raspberry flavored seltzer.
The pizza hit the table SIZZLING hot. It had a crispy and thin crust that somehow still supported the weight of all the added sausage, peppers, and onions when picking it up. I can’t begin to describe how delicious this pizza tasted. The sweetness from the sauce and veggies paired perfectly with the strong seasoning in its cornopia of meats.
After a flavorfully quick 8:36, this 5lb pizza and seltzer completed their way into my stomach earning me all the challenge prizes along with bragging rights for the setting the new record time!
Thank you Thomas Hooker Brewery for hosting such fun challenges and for cooking up one INSANELY delicious pizza! I will definitely be back to try your burger...
Read moreI stumbled upon this place after taking a wrong turn and let me just say I wasn’t disappointed. I’m not a beer drinker so I can’t speak to that, but the food is delicious. So far, the sweet chili wings are my absolute favorite, with a side of their spicy ranch. The pulled pork on my husbands pizza is delicious, I’m not a pineapple on pizza girl so I didn’t try his, but he loved it. My fig and prosciutto pizza was tasty, but a bit sparse - I wish it was a little heavier on the toppings. The combination of the fig spread, salty crispy prosciutto and balsamic glaze was awesome so I’ll definitely be getting it again. I can’t wait to try other stuff in their menu! I do have one issue since trying them a second time for online ordering: there is no way to order a side of fries through the online system. You can only get fries as an accompaniment to their burgers . I ordered wings last week and could not add them which was disappointing. A heads up to managers/management that may read this review - please fix this in your online system. Can’t wait to try the other...
Read moreThis review is a part of my quest of visiting all CT breweries. I visited Thomas Hooker Brewery before and decided to give it another go for a review.
The place is big. It has two indoor spaces and a patio. Indoor spaces offer different seating options including couches. They also serve food. I ordered a Harvest wrap during last visit and loved the combination of chicken and pecans.
The beers here are great. I was not impressed during my first visit, but during the last one I saw many beers requiring a lot of effort to produce - Imperial stouts, porters, barleywine and so on. Most of the beers on tap were new, so they are rotated. You can order beer flights to of 4 to try. I loved their Double Truffle (Imperial stout) and Imperial Baltic Porter, both were great representatives of their respective styles.
One of the benefits of this brewery is that it's open on Mondays which is rare on this part of CT. Overall, I do recommend this brewery for any craft...
