Here is a restaurant worth checking out. Great staff and atmosphere. The cabin style decor with the college vibe somehow works well. The walls and tables are adorned with sharpie marked signatures and slogans from students past. They're running out of room and they'll autograph the floor next. In my opinion this is an above average pizza joint. The crust was a pan style, very dense, with good flavor. I would not recommend going light on sauce for these pies- they need every drop of it. If you go light sauce you might as well eat a couple Popeyes biscuits with no beverage. We tried six different pies, including a gluten free option. Everyone was happy with our selections. I like the pie size options here (6,10,14 inch). The ten inch is a hearty ten and easily enough for 1-2, and the six inch will let you sample a few different ones. I liked their red sauced pizzas better than the alternatives. They have plenty of veggie only choices. The prices are pretty good. If I had to make a recommendation, I'd go with their supreme or their "divine swine". They have interesting lemonade drink options. If I had to recommend anything here it would probably be their regular bread sticks. The cheesy bread sticks were ok, but the regulars were great. We tried some salads as well- they have a few options and were pretty good. I still don't know how I feel about the cheddar goldfish in the salad but it was an interesting touch. They have some early bird specials and weekly deals that are worth taking advantage of. With all this being said, I might as well weigh in on the debate... Is this a top ten pizza place in the USA from a pizza standpoint? In my opinion, no. It's definitely a top five in Indiana. I've had a lot of pizza from all over, so I'm a little picky. Regardless, they have the recommendations from reputable outlets for being tops in the state and US and I would wholeheartedly agree it's worth your time to check out this...
Read moreI have loved Mother Bears for the 15 years I have lived in Bloomington, and have enjoyed even more the west side location close to my home. We almost exclusively eat Mother Bears pizza and have had so many years of great experiences (including celebrating birthdays there). We regularly order delivery and tip our drivers well. So, imagine my surprise tonight when we received a call from them after placing a delivery order informing me that they would not deliver due to "excessive complaints". To be clear, I have NEVER called with a complaint, EVER. Not once. I have waited for excessive delivery times and not been upset; but I've also rarely had anything to complain about. We tried to explain this and asked if there might be a mix up, as I just cannot fathom how numerous complaints have been logged under our name since WE'VE NEVER COMPLAINED. We easily order from this same restaurant at least once every two weeks (because we seriously love this pizza). We were told that the complaints were logged under our phone number and they maintain that it must have been us. We suspect that complaints come from another neighbor have been erroneously listed under our address (one time the delivery driver tried to deliver someone else's pizza to our house), but the manager was unwilling to consider that perhaps there was some human error in logging these complaints. After 15 years of loyal patronage I am not willing to spend any more money at this business. It's a shame, because it is literally our favorite place to eat in town. So tonight, Buccetos is getting my money. So, when you guys keep getting complaints from whomever it is you've been talking to, rest assured it's not...
