MUST TRY! Story time: Ok, I'd been a fan of the other roast beef place in Bloomington(same city) for a while. I hadn't been there in years because I don't get to that area much, but last time my family stopped we weren't impressed. I told a buddy about this and he immediately told me I had to go to Penn Lake Roast Beef. Apparently the original chef from the old place for 20+ years.
BOY was my buddy right. The roastbeef was just like I remembered. Flavorful, delicious and a bomb au jus. Do yourself a favor if you like roast beef....go here!
My daughter and I went and we were immediately greeted by a friendly face and it just so happens to be the cook's sister. She was funny and entertaining and enjoyed joking around with us which was great. We picked up one jumbo sandwich for me and the number two with French fries for my daughter. We also grabbed a couple of au jus, no sauce and interestingly enough two egg rolls. You'll understand when you walk in LOL
A handful of critiques but the place is still incredible... french fries were bland. Could use more seasoning. Also not a huge fan of crinkle cut fries but that's me. The food menu is a bit different with a split between American Asian food and roast beef sandwiches. Never really seen roast beef sandwiches with Asian food. Kind of an Asian fusion atmosphere which is interesting.
Overall it's still a must see spot. Do yourself a favor and go on Saturdays because they had a deal on roast...
Read moreThis was the most interesting visit. I was immediately greeted by a rather brash and abrasive woman who was shouting commands at me. I was taken aback by this very interesting introduction to this restaurant. She was attempting to crack jokes, and they came across as offensive. There are two women who work this front register. One is rather polite, shy, and demure. The other one is loud and obnoxious. The food is okay. Nothing special. I will never be back as the food was not that fantastic, and the attitude of the one woman was so abrasive that I couldn't endure that behavior on a future visit. Furthermore, people had entered the restaurant after myself, and they were served what appeared to be rather elaborate items of food before my simple meal arrived. It actually felt rather discriminatory. The most interesting aspect that truly shocked me the most was the surprise .55¢ fee for using a debit card. It wasn't announced until the sale had already...
Read moreThis place is a must-stop!! We had a lovely time at our first visit to this locally-owned restaurant. The woman who greeted us was so kind, sweet, charming, and welcoming. She was my favorite part of the experience. She made sure that we had everything we needed to enjoy our meal, and she went above and beyond to do so. I ordered the #1 Roast Beef Combo (sandwich and fries), and my husband ordered the Roast Turkey plate (turkey, mashed potatoes with gravy, and corn). We also wanted to try their egg rolls and cream cheese wontons, and the woman who helped us offered to do a half-order of each. Everything was so good! Get the jus with your roast beef. It's so good! Fries were served super hot. The egg roll has amazing flavor. The roast turkey plate was wonderful comfort food. Lots of parking in the lot outside, as it's located in a strip mall. Great restaurant run by a...
