Shannon's Five Star — Restaurant in Bloomington

My second time visiting this place and It was a VERY UNCOMFORTABLE, UNWELCOMING EXPERIENCE.. I visited the first time MONTHS AGO which LEAD ME TO VISIT AGAIN. This time WITH MY 8 year old SON! went to the establishment there were no line or MANY PEOPLE eating only about 3 tables occupied on a Saturday Evening at 4:45 pm 02/24/2024! went in ordered food for me and my child Was seated and I noticed the waiter looking from the cook area at us as we sat down.. the look he gave was like a debate on wether he wanted to come take our order, he did. Upon getting my order taken the girl that seated us kept looking around at me and my child like what was we doing there! Waiter completed order food was brought out. AFTER 5 minutes our food was brought out the waiter came back and asked if we needed anything INCLUDING TO GO BOXES I THEN WAS CONFUSED BECAUSE WE JUST GOT OUR FOOD WHY WOULD WE NEED TO GO BOXES! I stated no we was fine. WE ORDERED A BIG SELECTION OF FOOD SO WE WENT TO RELAX AND TAKE OUR TIME TO EAT! He then came back 5 minutes after that ASKING ID WE NEEDED ANYTHING AND AGIN PROCEEDED TO ASK IF I NEED A TO GO BOX MY MY CHILDS CHEESEBURGER AND FRIES I SAID I DONT THINK WE NEED ANYTHING ELSE AND WE ARE NOT READY FOR TO GO BOXES! My son then noticed the behavior and said momma I think they want us to go because he asking us about boxe. I think they are racist momma because we the only blacks in here and it’s all these WHITE PEOPLE! I said baby you know I was just thinking the same thing. I’m looking around and saw a table with two women WHITE and Mexican that was there way before us was eating when I got there and not once did I hear him asked if they needed to go boxes dirty napkins was on their table from them eating and they sat there and was talking for a very long time NOT ONCE DID I SEE HIM CONTINUOUSLY ASK THEM IF THEY NEEDED ANYTHING ELSE OR DIDNT SEE HIM RUSIMG THEM AT ALL!!! I’m so disappointed that me and my child had to experience THIS BEHAVIOR AT THIS ESTABLISHMENT. They may do have BLACKS COMING TO EAT MAYBE ITS AT A CERTAIN TIME THAT THEY COME AND MAYBE IT WAS THE WRONG TIME THAT ME AND MY CHILD WENT! We just go out to eat WE DONT KNOW THE TOWN BUT KNOW THAT IT IS INDEED RACIST! But didn’t think it was a SPECIFIC TIME FOR BLACKS TO GO TO A RESTAURANT TO EAT! I am DISTRAUGHT DISGUSTED AND EVEN THREW UP MY FOOD WHEN I LEFT! IM A NURSE AND INLOVE FOOD AND I ALWAYS LEAVE A TIP WHEREVER I GO EAT IN FACT I LEFT A TIP THE VERY FIRST TIME I VISIT THIS PLACE! But this TIME I DIDNT AND THE CASHIER SAID THERE WAS A BUTTON IF I WANTED TO LEAVE A TIP I REPLIED IM NOT LEAVING A TIP BECAUSE WE WAS RUSHED TO EAT OUR FOOD! She didn’t have any SYMPATHY nor did she apologize for the way we was treated she simply just handed me over my receipt AND STATED “MA’AM YOU HAVE A GOOD DAY! In my mind I was in all WOW because never in my years have I ever experienced RESTAURANT RACISM UNTIL NOW! ME AND MY CHILD WALKED IN HAPPY AND KUND TEADY TO EAT I WAS EVEN ASKING ABOUT THE SPECIALS TO THE SEATER AND SHE EVEN GAVE ME A NON CHALENT ATTITUDE ABOUT IT ! THAT WILL BE MY LAST TIME I GO EAT OR ORDER ANY FOOD FROM THIS PLACE AND I HOPE PEOPLE OF COLOR LIKE ME READ THIS review AND MAKE FREAT CHOICES BEFORE VISITING! ITS REALLY A...

Does Shannon’s get 5 stars from me? Close, but not quite.

But why does it not get 5? Well, let’s go into the stuff that was fantastic first.

The place is big. Like, full-sized restaurant big with room to spare. Plenty of parking available and it is easily accessible from one of the main roads in Bloomington. The staff was super nice despite there only being one other customer in the place. We had a completely empty restaurant to choose from, so naturally we sat near the windows. That’s one of my favorites, at least.

The menu does not match the size of the place… but that isn’t a bad thing. While it wasn’t a full menu, like one you would find at Denny’s, they still offer quite a bit. One thing to note is that they have cut off times for Breakfast and when Dinner starts, so keep that in mind. I was all jazzed to get a full breakfast and the waitress had to break my heart.

The price is way cheaper than your typical Restaurant. If you can zoom in on the menu photo below, you can make out what they serve and their prices. The Buffalo Sandwich I got was $5.95. With fries, it was $8.15, roughly. When our waitress served us, I was surprised with how massive this Buffalo Chicken Sandwich was. It was nearly 2/3 the size of the plate! Which was great since my stomach was grumbling.

So why didn’t I give this place a perfect 5? Well, the food was pretty good! The service was top notch for it being slow. No, what knocked this place down was the bathroom. I will save the dirty details, but it needs some TLC. Walking in from a fine restaurant to a messy bathroom that is in need of some upkeep was quite jarring. Hopefully they have plans to fix the issues with it as it was my only complaint about Shannon’s.

Give each of us enough wisdom to reveal your greatness to others. Dear Lord, we will not get tired of worshiping You. From the smallest to the greatest of your blessings, I will be in debt until my death. May the love that first came from you reign in the life of every child reading this prayer. Use us for your plans. Lord, I pray that You will stop this spreading disease - heal our land. This is causing huge damage to our families and communities. Please take care of us, Lord.
