We visited CoCo + Hazel in Bon Air yesterday for my husband’s birthday! He was looking for a dessert “experience,” and I was happy to have found this place! We arrived around 2:30 p.m. or so on a Saturday afternoon. When we walked in, the young people working there didn’t greet us, and both of them looked inconvenienced by our presence. Excitedly, we ignored that and ordered our sweets. My husband tried the Blackout Milkshake, and I ordered a mint chocolate chip sundae. When I asked for a cup of coffee, I was told, “we don’t have coffee after 12 noon.” I was shocked, as they clearly listed coffee on their menu online and in person, without any signage telling me that I had to come here before noon if I wanted any coffee. The young lady immediately tried to upsell me an Americano, which is an espresso drink with more caffeine and a heftier price tag. As we were waiting for our food, another couple walked in and promptly walked out, presumably because they too came for the morning-only coffee. I would have understood if they said they were just completely out of coffee, and offered me a substitute, but they simply refused to serve the fresh coffee they had. I couldn’t understand if this was a decision made among these inexperienced co-workers, or if this was a managerial decision. I’d like to give the benefit of the doubt to the employees, who were very young and seemingly untrained in customer service. Hopefully management will see this review, and change their coffee-brewing policy. If they had brewed a pot of coffee for me, they would have been able to serve it all to the three of us, and make $2.25 a cup of drip coffee per person. Many coffee shops offer a refill in-house for a smaller fee, so that’s another way to serve all that coffee. They took a gamble that I’d be willing to pay more for an espresso drink, but instead we just stopped by 7-11 on the way home and I enjoyed a cup of Columbian. As for the ice cream, it was delicious! My husband’s chocolate milkshake was the most decadent part of our experience. My mint chocolate chip ice cream was smooth with a natural mint flavor that reminded me more of candy canes and less of York Peppermint Patties. The chocolate chips were a good consistency too, they were not too hard on my dental work. Parking was ample and accessible, the bathrooms were clean and stocked with paper, and the dining area looked pretty well-kept. I would like to give this location another chance, because I saw how much fun my husband had. CoCo + Hazel, please give me a reason to return so I can update...
Read moreCame here with high hopes after following Coco + Hazel on Instagram for a while. While the shakes were great, the service leaves a LOT to be desired.
Upon our arrival, the girl behind the counter very frustratedly said “I’m going to need a few minutes”, which was fine with us because we needed time to review the menu. When we approached the counter to order, she sighed loudly she asked if we were ready now (sorry- did we cause a problem waiting to place our order when literally 2 minutes prior she let us know SHE wasn’t ready for us???). We politely placed our order and left a gracious tip, despite her mumbling questions at us throughout our order and getting visibly annoyed each time I said “I’m sorry, can you repeat that?”.
As we walked to our table, we then hear the entire staff start to complain loudly about a party of 14 coming in later in the evening. Keep in mind this location is very large and we were the ONLY customers, so the complaining was very audible and bounced off the walls.
Orders arrive and look great, except that a few minutes in my husband realizes he is missing part of his order. He goes up to the counter to ask if it will be out soon, and the cashier looks up from her phone, says “what are you talking about?” And after he reminds her of his order, she puts her phone down, rolls her eyes and proceeds to get the item out of the case.
If you are looking to get a dessert with your family where you will spend a good amount of money and be treated poorly, this is probably the spot for you. Not sure I’ll be racing to come back any time soon purely based on the poor...
Read moreWith all the good reviews on google for this place, we were expecting to have a pretty good experience. Unfortunately, this was not the case. Upon arrival the entire place was completely dirty. Tables weren’t clean, crumbs all over the floor, display case dirty, etc. we ordered a churro, a birthday cake slice, and the chocolate peanut butter pie slice. There was no one in line and only a few tables with people and yet those 3 to go things took 20 minutes! The cashier did apologize for taking a long time once she finally brought out everything by saying sorry she “had to make cinnamon sugar for the churro “. It would have been nice if she would have informed us of this before we waited 20 minutes as we thought this was going to be a quick in and out trip and probably would have said that’s okay we would skip on the churro then. Once we got home to eat our desserts we also had a terrible experience…. The birthday cake was completely dry with very little taste and was the same with the Churro. Swallowing a piece of chewed churro was like swallowing grains of salt on a dry crusty piece of bread and for $4 it should have been a little bigger than a few inches long. We will not be returning here and absolutely could have spent our money on better quality dessert in a more clean environment which we will do in the future. This was definitely a...
