El Potro Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in Bonner Springs

I just left this place in tears. I've been coming here for years & it's one of my favorite resturants. This was the worst experience I have ever had here. I sat there for more than 5 mins before someone asked me if I wanted to place a ToGo order. I said no, Im eating here, thank you. She left and still no one acknowledged me. Finally one of my regular servers came up to me and I was able to order my drink and dinner. His attention was else where due to a big party that came in after me. I still had no chips and salsa. Once he broke free from the table I asked if they still served chips and salsa. He replied the lady was serving the chips and salsa to the party but she'll be with me shortly. Mind you, there is tons of staff near me doing side work, along with the manager standing at thr table chatting with them. Finally a woman showed up with the chips and salsa and as soon as she set them down my dinner arrived. I assumed everyone else was having delayed services but the more I looked around I noticed the tables were immediately being giving chips and salsa prior to the server greeting the table. Mexican food makes me thirsty and my water was gone so fast. It sat there empty. I wanted another adult beverage but no one to ask for one. Then a solo man showed up, just like I did and he was immediately catered too by the manager. He was talking with him and got him a cold beverage and took his order. Im still sitting there not being acknowledged. All I wanted to do was leave and I was trying to fight back my tears. I was invisible to wveryone there. Finally a woman who clearly was at the end of her shift asked if I needed anything and all I could say was, "I just want to go home." The manager gave me a ticket and I asked to take everything home, since I didnt get to enjoy my appetizer and he only came back with one box and one container when there were several little bowls of items that were liquidity. I had to ask 2 more times for the exact amount of what I needed to bag up my food. The manager asked if there was anything else I needed in a cold way and I just said no. Then he turns around and laughs and jokes with thr guy next to me. I dont know why I was treated so differently. Im always a big tipper and I come from a spanish family so I enjoy practicing my Spanish there. Tonight was awful. As soon as I stepped out of the doors I couldnt hold my tears back. This was such an awful experience that im not sure i want to go back there. Even though I love and crave this food....

Excellent food, great service, reasonable price.....but watch for the cops.

We have been to El Potro on at least a half dozen occasions. The menu offers almost too many choices. I can, and do, often spend a long time pouring over the menu, yet true to form I order the same thing almost every time- the Enchiladas Las Glorias (shrimp enchiladas) which are great.

Came here for the first time with family for a birthday party. All I can say is I wish I lived closer to this restaurant cuz I would go often. This is definitely my new favorite Mexican restaurant in this city. The customer service was outstanding. Our waitress did an amazing job keeping up with a group of 10. She was on top of it bringing the drinks before they were even finished, so amazed by her! My food was absolutely delicious. I had chicken fajitas and they were so good. The only negative is I wasn't a big fan of the salsa but I was surprised at the fact that they give you queso dip along with salsa for your chips. What other Mexican restaurant includes queso with the chips and salsa? The drink that I had was at sangria Margarita. Two of my favorite drinks put together and hands down, one of the best I've ever tasted. I cannot wait to go back and try some other things on the menu. Everyone's food looked so good at our table. We had two birthdays at our table and they even came out to sing to them. The birthday boy in our group is a vegetarian and this is his favorite restaurant so they do provide several options for vegetarians. Also, another person in our group has some dietary restrictions and they accommodated her by not adding seasoning to her grilled chicken. Definitely will be back to eat...
