There's a saying that: "A good taco doesn't need cheese. A good taco only needs a little bit of lime and cilantro." This statement is true when it comes to this place - which is a huge compliment since Boston is famous for its lack of authentic, good taco restaurants. (Came with a mexican friend who had been searching for good tacos in Boston for a long time.) Got 4 tacos with 4 different fillings: Al pastor (pork with pineapple), Papa's con chorizo (potatoes and meat), lengua (beef tongue), and pork en Chile Verde (carnitas in salsa). Homemade taco shells - fresh, warm, thick and soft without that grainy texture. All the meat were super tender and juicy. The Papa's con chorizo didn't blow me away - could taste more potatoes than chorizo (if any). But I would definitely come back to get the Al pastor and pork en Chile Verde. Also got the horchata which was delicious! It reminded of sweetened almond milk with cinnamon. If you don't like cinnamon, don't get this drink. My friend got the quesadilla with the Papa's con chorizo. Wasn't blown away with it but we think it's because of the filling. The potatoes were too plain - not enough flavors. Good amount of melted cheese and the guac is perfect. Very filling meal, delicious, and it can get Super messy since the filling will topple out of the taco shell with every bite - but no complaints there. 😉 The space is small. Only counter space to eat with maybe 7 chairs. Service is great and fast!

Food: Torta (Toasted Mexican telera bread, shrimp, refried beans, melted jack cheese, guac, pico, lettuce, jalapeño, mayo) Ambiance: Very cute, casual, small venue. Parking: Street parking is available. Pricing: Fair. Food (flavors): This torta was PACKED with flavor. The pico and lettuce gave the torta a fresh flavor. The cheese, guac, mayo, and refried breans gave the torta the fatty flavors that we know and love. The shrimp was cooked well, but I don't recall tasting any distinct seasonings on it. I didn't really taste the jalapeños which was good for me because I don't like them too much. The bread was so soft and lightly toasted; I enjoyed it. Portion size: Large For more reviews, my food page is @fave_foodie on instagram.

Found a live beetle in my food. I showed the staff and the cursed me out and refused to give me my money back. This will be dealt with, making sure the city of Boston puts a B or C in the window of this dirty place. Staff told me both “you’re being too picky” when I didn’t just take the big out and that “it’s not their fault, it probably just fell into the meat”. $16 for 2 tacos and a drink and they send me on my way hungry and without the money I spent. Literally saw my food moving, disgusting.

My wife and I have ordered from this location many times before. Today we made our usual order for delivery. Over 45 minutes later, we called, as we hadn't gotten any of the updates we usually receive. They got our name, phone number, and order. They then informed us that we would have to come to the location to get the food, even though we ordered delivery. When we arrived at the location, they said that they weren't going to make the food after all since they couldn't find the order. I talked with the manager over the phone and they were able to locate the order well enough to give us a full and exact refund. However, the staff at this particular location maintained that they couldn't make my order because they couldn't find it in their tablet at the front counter, even though I drove across town (despite having originally ordered delivery). Pity, as we have ordered this same way from the same location many times before, and have never encountered any issues like this. I am writing this review after having spent over 2 hours and 30 minutes trying to get our usual order of 1 Quesabirria, 1 order of churros, and 1 Coca Cola. At the end of it, we remain foodless. They didn't look at all sorry for this error, and put in very little...

I’ve been a loyal customer of Chilacates on Amory Street for a while now, and I have to say, the food is consistently amazing. The flavors are authentic, and the quality is always top-notch. One of my favorite things to do was to grab some food with my daughter and enjoy it in the South West Corridor Park across the street.

Unfortunately, I’ve recently had to stop visiting this location. The park has become occupied by a group of aggressive men who play loud, inappropriate music and openly consume drugs throughout the day. The atmosphere has become loud, hostile, and frankly unsafe, especially with them yelling at each other. As a parent, I’m concerned for my safety and that of my daughter, and it has impacted my ability to enjoy the park and the wonderful food from Chilacates.

I want to make it clear that this issue has nothing to do with Chilacates itself—the restaurant and its staff are fantastic. I only wish the surroundings were safer so I could continue dining here...
