First off, I love Colombia. I fell in love with the people and culture of Medellin, Colombia, In 2012 while serving as Co-leader of a Short-Term-Mission team of about 15 Boston area Middle and High School students who provided an ESL after-school camp for same-aged students from the Collegio Villa Rosa, a public school in a very poor neighborhood of Medellin. The Colombian kids LOVED learning English from our kids. Each day as a leader, I produced PPT slides for that days lesson, which included vocabulary and many games. We stayed in the student dormitory of a nearby seminary. The professors there told us not to walk around the neighborhood after dark because it wasn’t safe. I did anyway, and fell in love with all the people of the neighborhood. Once they knew who I was and what we were doing, I had instant family. Stores gave special deals, men watching football on a TV wanted me to join in the fun. I got to see Medellin museums and libraries. One day we rode up into the surrounding mountains to buy coffee from the farmers co-op. We visited an orphanage and a home for runaway teens.
All that to say, when I walked through the doorway of Delicias Colombianas in Hyde Park, it felt like coming home. The menu is extensive, so many new things to try. Everything is delicious, the portions are overly generous (I’ve yet to finish a complete meal, always have some to take home.) However, the highlight are Miguel and his staff. These are warm and friendly people, always willing to talk in depth to me despite my very limited Spanish. They all go the extra mile in English. And each person has a story to share. I love to share my experiences in 2012 and 2014, and wish so much I can return again. Today, I had the Chicken and Avocado Salad. It comes covered with a huge perfectly grilled chicken breast. I took a picture but not before I’d already eaten almost half. Sorry. I just couldn’t wait. 😉 The decor of the place is ART. Today, I even shot a brief video of the Men’s Room, only because it is always meticulously clean, fresh smelling, stocked with all the essentials, AND the walls are covered with provocative, beautiful works of art! I did manage to persuade Miguel, Erika, and Ana, to join me for a pic. You’ll see me, “Dr. john” (pediatrician from BCH) wearing the Colombian Bike Team Jersey. These people are like family. The food is great. The prices are more than reasonable, so when you go, please tip...
Read moreDo not be fooled by the hispanic reviews. This place is not for your if you are not hispanic. Period.
Food has no flavor drinks are great to me if you like them to taste like juice with no alcohol (even though you are paying it to have it with alcohol) service seems extremely slow/ to the point disrespectful towards non Hispanic customers.
I had to get up three times to get serviced. Waiter did not order my food correctly nor did they ask me to repeat myself. If it was misunderstood.
(But keep in mind they will take your order and “remember” everything you said instead of actually writing it down.)
I sat for 30 min waiting on my food while my friend ate theirs. It was not busy what so ever and NOT understaffed either. In those 30 min they did not come to the table to check on us.
I went to get up and ask for my portion of the order. He looked confused as I stated I ordered sides as well (sides were white rice, beans, guacamole, and plantains). He looked confused and told me 2MINUTES. I waiting an additional 20 minutes probably.
Had to get up ONCE AGAIN and ask about my order. The waiter finally gets it.
I order a drink while up there picking up my order.
Wait an additional 10-15 minutes for the drinks.
HAD TO GET UP AGAIN TO THE BAR!!!!!!! (LOLLLLL AT THIS POINT I FELT LIKE THIS HAS TO BE A JOKE) I ask about the drinks I ordered THEY COMPLETELY FORGOT MY DRINKS AGAIN LOL. And I had to wait for them to make it.
Long story short all that waiting for lower than Mediocre food AND terrible service is just crazy to me. That’s...
