Candy & Cake — Restaurant in Bourbonnais

This is another place that I really wanted to like. They have a great sign that makes me want to go inside and buy something. The place looks like it was an afterthought to someone that had invested in a car wash and then needed a business for a family member to run. Sheer speculation. You can’t help but notice that there’s just no parking for this unusual little place. A couple spots on the side and that’s it. The sign says, “Candy and cake”. The problem is: there is no candy and there’s rarely a cake. It seems this place is, or is trying to be, a restaurant!?! Much of the counter space is dedicated to promoting sandwiches and exotic hamburgers and sides. The one that I saw being made looked pretty good. I went to Candy and Cake several times over several days. Cakes seem to be special order or maybe one generic cake is available. Pies, on the other hand, are displayed for sale. The French Silk was excellent and reminiscent of baker’s square. The coconut cream was very disappointing because the whipped topping on top of the pie was simply flavoured with a coconut flavouring and no pudding type filling was found. The banana cream pie had dried banana’s (!) on the crust rather than fresh bananas as expected. There was no carrot cake nor cheese cake. I bought some pricy but stale cupcakes for my granddaughter’s birthday which were not a hit and disappointing. The place has a nice selection of ice cream in tubs for scooping and there are several small tables for customers to enjoy their treats. The staff appears to have some turnover, but they try hard and are always friendly and helpful. This would be a great place to take the kids for a snack or ice cream after church. I notice the reviews are from some business connected folks and that indicates to me that the owner recognizes his/her identity issue and is reaching out. If you like this place like I do, consider reaching back with constructive ides. Just a thought.

Be thoughtful when you order and have a piece of French Silk if they have it. Check the very attractive cupcakes and decide. Overall, I still like this place and I think it’ll find its identity soon. For now, it’s...

. Place was really cute from the outside . We just happenend to be driving through and seen it and had to check it out . I have to say it was a very first bad impression as soon as we walked in the door smelled like a dirty grease trap but was cute inside . Staff was very prompt at greeting us and very pleasant but unfortunately We tried to order several of the drinks, but they were out of " Many" flavors basically out of there whole list and could only make 3 of the drinks and No dry ice . The waitress was even hesitant to continue to tell us the flavor was out and was extremely apologetic. I informed her that It was not her fault in anyway, and was going to leave but decided hey I would get some pie . Bought a whole pie and it was a hit with the kids , but when we received there drinks it was like them drinking liquid syrup and 3 of them didn't drink it but they had eaten the candy . Brought this to waitresses attention. THAT A HUGE HARD CLUMP OF CORN SYRUP WAS STUCK AT THE BOTTOM . The kids proceeded to say it was disgusting. Told the waitress it's not about trying to get something for free its about getting your moneys worth for something you ordered thats edible and drinkable. At $9 a drink with 4 kids and a pie which I said was great ! That's a 60 dollar bill not including tax ! And very frustrating to a grandparent to see 4 glasses full they couldn't even drink . I really never left a review like this so negitive about a buisness but with the price there charging for drinks they should be drinkable . Will Not be returning...

Had a bad review left here explaining how employees left lobby unattended with guests sitting in it and SOMEHOW it got deleted, definitely wasn’t by me. Assuming owner paid for removal. Assuming owner coaxed friends and family to post the last weeks worth of reviews since they have had more reviews in the last 7 days than they have as a business in total. Again, don’t waste your time and money here. Employees were nice but non existent after they serve you, which apparently is ok over an hour before close because they have so much work to do in the back per the owners words. Never experienced that at a restaurant or customer service before but hey, to each their own right? Owner gas lights bad reviews instead of taking constructive criticism. Have reported to BBB, C&C Corp, and health department because the food sitting out on the tables was old and unsanitary… not to mention unsupervised with customers in lobby. I highly suggest you skip past the last weeks worth of “reviews” to get an actual feel for this place before spending money here. I’ll be awaiting this post to get deleted, and awaiting the gas lit comment as all of the other bad reviews that they receive. Makes candy and cake look bad. GFS is down the road, spend money there for exact same product. Throwing sprinkles on it doesn’t make it distinguished. But hey, there’s a robot now that makes sure the lobby is serviced, so maybe you won’t be as disappointed as I was when I needed one simple thing from a paid employee that was non existent...
