I'd rate this place zero stars but I don't have the option to make it lower. Went out with a group of 7 family members to this brewery for the first time. Not sure if our server was new or exhausted from her shift, but as soon as we were seated, she left for fifteen minutes before asking what we wanted to drink. She gave the guys beer menus that had spilled beer on them. When they asked for new beer menus she said "that would be helpful" a bit sarcastically. She handed them new beer menus even stickier than the previous ones and proceeded to tell us that 7 of the main beers weren't available. In our opinion, if you have a brewery five minutes down the street, then you should have all beers available for your customers. 30 minutes pass and we still hadn't been asked what we wanted to eat, but the table next to us arrived and she is giving them bread. We weren't given bread and we were there before them. My husband had to raise his hand to get our server's attention to ask for it. She brings our bread and everyone's drink except mine. 15 more minutes pass and I had to raise my hand to get her attention again since she still hadn't asked us for our meal orders, but as I asked if my drink was on it's way, she answered back that the machine for that particular drink was not working and didn't think to let us know to order something different. After we finally get our food, my sister in law said that the wrap didn't taste right and she didn't want to be rude, so she took it to go instead. Turns out the lettuce was brown and not fresh at all. We were instantly given our checks and to-go boxes without having our waters refilled the whole time, nor were we asked if we wanted dessert or anything else. So we order our neice dessert and our server tells the table next to us in a loud voice that she at least appreciated their patience. We were patient, but we were also hungry and wanted our food in a timely manner considering the brewery wasn't that busy and our server checked on one particular table of two 6 times before coming back to ours. After we pay, we head to bar area for our brother to get a beer growler, and the bar tender tells him that they are limited on beer, and our brother says that he will pay for one pint anyway. The bar tender basically tells him no and throws his check down in his face and says "There you go" in a very rude way and walks away. The next day, three of our family members felt sick from the food and my sister threw up We wanted to go somewhere nice as a family, but after our experience, we will never go back to this...
Read moreVery disappointing. I'm new to the area and I've heard good things about this place. My boyfriend and I decided to have date night here. Food was huge portions, but taste was nothing outstanding. We had the nachos platter, which was sloppily thrown together with very little beef and cheese. Tuscan chicken pasta was decent, but again, nothing notable. Burger was cooked to my bf liking and good-sized. When looking over the beer menu, there wasn't any info on flights or specialty drinks, which I thought was odd for a brewery. The biggest issue we had was the service. When the hostess seated us, we were attempting to take a selfie together in the booth and our waiter came over, reached over the table to grab the ketchup bottle for some reason and then stood there awkwardly. Then he didn't say hi, any type of greeting or even his name. He asked if we were ready to order right away, which, of course we weren't- we just sat down. We hadn't finished our appetizer yet when our food arrived, so we were picking at all of it. He came by and I had the plate in front of me with food still on it, and he grabbed the plate to take it away. I told him I'm still eating that... Then, a bit later while I was literally taking a bite of food, he asked if he could take my martini glass that was on the inside of the booth. So with a mouth full of food, I stared at him, then turned and grabbed my glass and handed it to him. Just odd and bad timing multiple times. He never came by to ask if we wanted more drinks or check our waters. We eventually asked for more water, he never came back. We saw him standing and chatting so I'm assuming he forgot. Waved him down and he brought a water. Didn't apologize or anything. Just felt like he had bad manners, not personable and not very observant. Lastly, before we left I went to the restroom and it was disgusting! One stall dirty- won't go into details, next stall clogged, third stall walls were filthy. Went to wash my hands and out of paper towels. So I'm guessing no one checks in the restrooms regularly. Overall, I felt this place is a fake nice restaurant, I do not forsee myself...
Read moreWhen traveling and being an avid foodie, I'm always looking for local restaurants to check out. I came across several places that caught my attention in the Kankakee, Bradley and Bourbonnais area. What really got my attention with BrickStone, was that it was a microbrew.
The question is though, was the food comparable to the food? Plenty of items on their menu to choose from and a few things that caught my eye to help with my flight of beers I just ordered. I decided to go with a Chipotle Burger. This good sized burger was topped with jalapenos, pepperjack cheese, shredded lettuce, pico de gallo & our spicy chipotle sauce.
First, I will say that this burger had some really good flavor to it and worth ordering the next time you're at Brickstone. However, it's not the type of burger I like to order and tend to stay away from.
Secondly, at least in Minnesota, I'm known for judging my burgers two ways. One type of burger is similar to Brickstone's - a lot of ground beef, perfectly round (often times already portioned out) and not my style. The other type and my style - throw a ball of ground beef that is perfectly seasoned on the flat top and smash it while you cook. Those little bits of morsels full of flavor start to fall off and you set your burger down just to enjoy those. THAT'S a burger!
I love microbrew's and the flight I had was an awesome paring to my burger. The IPA/APA/EPA's they're creating aren't all that bitter and enjoyable. I'll pretty much drink anything that has the word beer included in the title, but one brew I would stay away from - their porter. It's a bit much! My favorites were the - 557, Forbidden Wheat, Golden Promise, Cherry Bomb ans Smashed Series.
I'll be traveling to the area occasionally every year and will always consider this place, but I may have to check out a place called Burgers and Beers during my next trip to the...
