A must stop. I live in Marfa but I drive Hwy 90 a lot and I stop every chance I get. Simply the best breakfast tacos you’ll find anywhere. And very reasonably priced I think. My first time at Darla’s was years ago (probably around the time they first opened?) and it totally took me by surprise. To be honest, I did not expect her to make food like my abuelita & tias made it (from SCRATCH) but she does and it’s delicious and it’s always super fresh. That’s just pretty hard to find nowadays. It tastes like it should to me, and that’s saying a lot bc I’m Mexican-American from a family of great cooks, and have serious opinions about food. In Marfa we like our salsa hot ; ), actually made from chiles not just tomato, and made fresh with good ingredients. Darla had the best salsa maybe on Hwy 90, I’m not even kidding. I’ve been driving from Las Cruces to San Antonio my whole life, I go to all the old timer haunts like my dad did, and I just love this place. It’s always been really consistent, other than the wait time which can vary. Go early if you want to make it before she runs out. I like the Big Tex (RIP?) and the Migas tacos, but I’ll do egg, cheese,& potato too and change it up all the time, beans or no beans, bean & cheese etc. It’s cool I can do corn tortillas here because I’m actually allergic to wheat. I love sitting outside with my dog and enjoying the morning air. Lots of nice memories of this place. My brother goes now more than I get to. Darla could make a killing in Marfa. Ramona at Marfa Burrito keeps threatening to leave and I hope that never happens but...
Read moreI was going to start this review by saying, “Darla’s Tacos is a gem,” and I realized another reviewer used that word—we’re right! It is!
As a breakfast taco enthusiast from San Antonio, I consider Darla’s Tacos to have the best breakfast tacos between San Antonio and Del Rio. If you’re Brackettville during her opening hours, you’re in for a treat. (On the rare occasions when I am not in the mood for a breakfast taco M-F between 7:30 and 11am, I try to get a couple for later.)
The storefront is small, but there’s shaded patio seating outside. Parking is ample. Don’t forget to pick up a couple of extra packets of Darla’s house salsa—you’ll want to add it...
Read moreMy husband and I were driving through Brackettville after a weekend of camping at Kickapoo caverns and we stopped because it said “coffee- $1.00”. Little did we know this place would be a total GEM! We ordered a few breakfast tacos (potato and egg) that were freshly made, even the tortillas seemed homemade. The hot sauce was delicious! It was such a pleasant surprise and a perfect end to our weekend. It seems we weren’t the only fans either as there were lots of other customers popping in for breakfast tacos while we were there. Definitely worth stopping if you’re driving...
