I saw a sign out near the road advertising “fish & chips”. I love fish and chips but I have given up getting anything other than prepackaged frozen fish blocks and undercooked fries every time I order it these days. If they cared enough to put out a sign, maybe this time it might be different. It was! The fish was just right and the fries were fresh cut. The tarter sauce was homemade and tasty. I had the pleasure of speaking to the owner to complement her on the quality of the food. She let me know they make everything in their kitchen. Even the bacon is smoked on site. I also have a passion for New England Clam Chowder. I have ordered NECC in 100’s of restaurants. This was the best I have had the pleasure to enjoy. Not muddy, not watery, actually has clams in it and hand cut potatoes. Perfect. So, after passing two of my most critical tests I pulled out the final test in my search for my favorite restaurant, Banana Cream Pie. I told her if they had that, my searching days were over. She not only told me the had BCP, but her mom does all the deserts and they are made fresh every day! I think my heart skipped a beat. She brought me a slice and it too was excellent. I am hooked for good and have yet to get anything on the menu (working my way through it) that wasn’t delicious and obviously made in their kitchen. Now for the only downside. They have limited hours so be sure to make sure they are open before you go. Secondly, if fancy decorations and plush surroundings are your thing, this is not for you. This is where you go when your priority is great food. It’s not particularly cheap either but with food quality this high the price is very reasonable. They have a full bar if you want to enjoy an adult beverage with your meal. If you know the difference between packaged frozen commercially prepared food and the real stuff, you won’t be disappointed. Updated 11/4/23 They have reopened their salad bar and offer an all you eat soup and salad bar for $14. The salad bar items are actually prepared at the restaurant. The dressings are fresh, the cole slaw is fresh, and the soups are fantastic. The New England clam chowder remains one of the best. The mushroom soup is excellent. There is nothing better than freshly prepared food using fresh ingredients and unique recipes. I’m so tired of being served the same prepackaged foods at many restaurants and nothing they make here will disappoint you.

My boyfriend and I finally got around to trying O'Malley's after being in the area for almost 10 months. Sooo glad we did. The food was all really good. We got the poutine and Southern Oysters to start. I will say with the poutine, my only criticism is that the cheese should be cheese curds and not shredded cheddar. Everything else was really good. The gravy was perfect. My boyfriend liked the oysters. He was glad they were cooked right. They were not my fav as I'm not really a fan of oysters. We both got the warm cider to drink and that was yummy. I got a chocolate martini which was also good. For dinner, I got the chicken Caesar sandwich. The chicken was cooked nicely and a good sandwich overall. My boyfriend got the Classic Burger (cooked medium rare), which he really enjoyed. The onion rings were also really good, and I'm not a fan of them. So that tells you something. Really good batter on them. Can't wait to try their fish and chips. Burgers are all made in house by the owners son (who is the chef). With our dinners we split a cup of mushroom soup, and oh my goodness was it ever yummy. My boyfriend makes a super yummy mushroom soup and even he said that it was possibly better than his. Our waitress gave us a small taste of the new England clam chowder to taste and it was really good too. We ended up getting a bowl of the mushroom and clam chowder to go for another night. We also got a couple desserts to go too. The pineapple upside down cake and the banana cream. Both were super yummy. Mrs O'Malley is the one who makes the desserts. Definitely can't wait to try some of the others. The banana cream pie has actual bananas in it, which is awesome. We will most definitely be going back and will be regulars now. All around great first experience. Highly recommend. 🙂

What an excellent family-owned restaurant. My partner and I stopped in for an early dinner last Sunday. It was our first time there, although I went to high school with the head chef/son of the owner Dennis, so I have know about O'Malley's for many years. What a nice experience. Our server was very attentive, knowledgeable and friendly. The space space has a cozy, hole-in-the-wall feel, with classic dock-side tchotchkes and Irish regalia as decor. Very charming. We ordered drinks (they have a full bar) and a half-dozen raw oysters to start. I ordered perch with green beans as a side. She ordered seafood lasagna. My perch was pretty good, however the green beans were honestly the best I've ever had. Bright and fresh, perfectly seasoned, and just the right amount of crunch. Although her lasagna was tasty, with big fat scallops and shrimp, it was a little too rich for her taste. Our entrees were accompanied with delicious, warm, homemade bread. The special was any entree over $15 gave access to the soup/salad bar, which was maybe the highlight of the meal (we are salad lovers so the salad is often our favorite part of a meal). All the veggies and toppings were incredibly fresh, and the dressings are all made from scratch. I LOVE LOVE LOVE homemade French dressing, so I was in heaven. There were also six kinds of soup. When I asked our server if I could try them all she playfully replied, "you'd better!" We did and they were all tasty, our favorites being cream of mushroom and Manhattan clam chowder. We left with or bellies happily full, and that warm feeling of just having had a great meal with family.

Although I have only been twice, everything I have tried, and what those I went with picked has been phenomenal. I am very picky about eating out, since I make everything at home from scratch normally, and my partner worked as a cook for years, so out standards are high. We can tell the extra lengths the cook goes to with his dishes, soups, mains, desserts, even the breads and croutons. Though some dishes take time to come out, in this case it is obviously because the dish was literally just prepared.

The calamari is fantastic, and have a lovely pairing, such as I usually only see at "fancier" restaurants. And I love calamari, so to have such obviously fresh seafood in a small town in Michigan is awesome!

I got the ribeye once, and this is literally the only place I have ever truly enjoyed one. It was cooked properly, and I deeply appreciate the fact that it was not charred black all over like all other places do. Those red skins on the side were surprisingly delicious rather than just plain potatoes.

This time I got the chef's special, the shrimp gnocchi. Amazing sauce, so well spiced. The shrimp were lovely quality, with a rich red color.

We shared a slice of pie, and I suppose it was a mousse, so light in texture, while also being rich and flavorful. Always a favorite of mine.

The plating of the dessert and main dishes ways also a bit fancier than expected from what looks to be a fish and chips place (which I imagine are also delicious).

While it is somewhat pricey, maybe more so compared to the local options, it is more than worth it. The servings have been generous, and the quality really is top notch. I am veryuch looking forward to seeing what new specials might be created in the future. The servers are also very friendly and helpful.

Truly this is the only place we eat out locally, and is easily on par with top restaurants in Ann Arbor or Traverse City. I am so relieved to have such a close place to get healthy, homemade food, for those days I haven't the energy to cook;...

First time visiting this place (came up on a Google search for “food near me” after a day hike at the Holly Rec Area - wasn’t familiar with it prior to) & have already been taking about when we can make it back.

Had the smoked brisket French dip; hubby had a lemon-dill seafood dish (shrimp, salmon, & mahi mahi); kids both had a chicken tender platter; & we shared the fried pickle appetizer.

Food was phenomenal. I’m very picky about my meats (and was worried I might regret my choice, as I’ve had similar sandwiches at other restaurants, and there is always more fat than meat in the shredded brisket I tend to be served) but this was pure meat. The aus jus was very flavorful. Even the seasoning on the (hand cut) French fries was amazing! The kids’ chicken tenders was like none I’ve seen. It’s clearly freshly cut & the fry batter was on point. Hubby enjoyed the seafood dish (though I hadn’t tasted it myself).

Additionally, the service was fantastic. The owner visited the table multiple times (and even brought the kids free chicken noodle soups - which I did have to sample of course, and will definitely be ordering it for myself the next time!). It’s evident that he loves what he does and takes a lot of pride in the food he serves - not to mention, that he just seemed so happy & jovial, that it just rubbed right off on you!

I do have one single regret, however. While I was wholly stuffed, I had every intention of ordering a piece of tiramisu & a cannoli to go (since I find both hard to come across at restaurants AND I seen that they were noted to be homemade), and in the midst of my food coma, I totally forgot until after the bill came & would have felt bad asking for them at that point. While I’m kicking myself now, it’s just another reason to get back out that way in the...
