My experience at Pepe's in Brea was one of extremes, some highs & many lows.
Since I'm a super-positive guy, let's start with the pros. My food, a chile relleno burrito was very good. In addition to the typical chile relleno and beans inside the tortilla, the burrito Pepe's serves has some of their green pork sauce, which wasn't bad, but unexpected. My burrito of choice at an unknown establishment is typically a chile relleno, because I am rather afraid of how poorly many places cook their asada or pollo, and Pepe's has one of the better ones I've had. The place is clean, has a couple TVs (if you enjoy that kind of thing in your eating establishment), and plenty of seating, inside and out.
Okay, so now, let's run through some of the negatives. One of the first things I saw was several little signs posted throughout the dining room letting the patrons know that they aren't a full service restaurant, however you were free to leave a tip if you'd like. I found that a rather generous offer and felt honored that I could be afforded that opportunity. Next, while my burrito was good, the other food my party ordered was not as well liked. The chicken quesadilla was folded as if someone in the kitchen was practicing their origami and ended up resembling more of a wet chicken and cheese burrito than a quesadilla. And the beef taquitos were bland, both the meat and guacamole. A staple of every Mexican fast-food joint is orange bang, so I always make sure to order one and at Pepe's I got an XL, feeling rather thirsty that day. Unfortunately, Pepe's doesn't have straws that are long enough to reach from the bottom of the XL cup to beyond the top of the cup. So instead you get to stick your hands in your drink to fish out the straw every time you want to take a sip, luckily I wasn't given a top to my drink (don't know if that was another money-saving cutback or a short straw necessity). Finally, Pepe's suffers from one of my biggest pet peeves, inaccessible napkins. Of course, I could go ask for another three napkins, but when workers are busy or just MIA, acquiring those precious necessities becomes problematic. Napkins are really not terribly costly....put them out....it won't kill you.
If you know the things to avoid, Pepe's isn't a bad place, but in the end, I'll probably end up avoiding...
Read moreI never met such a rude owner in my life. I call in to make a phone order, keep in mind I’m at work and I only have a 15 minute break to get my order. I never have issues at other places when I make a phone order. They told me it would for sure be ready by 2:30pm. I told them that it’s IMPORTANT that I need to have the food made when I come in since I’m limited on time. I arrive a few minutes after 2:30 and the cooks look like they aren’t making my food. I asked if they started making my order. They cooks start making my food as I’m trying to pay. Now I am stuck with no lunch until 7pm and I’m stuck at work. I would not be leaving this review if the “owner” wasn’t so RUDE! She was talking over me and not letting me explain the situation. She didn’t offer to do anything for me and just said sorry we have too many orders not picking up their food. If that is the case the please tell me that before I waste my time and break. She wasn’t understanding my situation and the customer is always right! She told me to go ahead and leave a bad review because she doesn’t care. I asked for her name and she would not give it to me. I will talk to corporate or the real owner of this store. I gave you guys a chance to resolve this. And btw this is the 3rd time this has happens and the owner accused me of lying saying this was my first order. I no longer trust these people to make my food and the owner was a cold blooded person. It felt like I was talking to a child who was upset because they didn’t get their way. I will be speaking with...
