WARNING BELOW
I made the walk from the truckstop, had a craving for some southern food. First was sat under an AC unit that was dripping condensation on me so I had them move me lol. No issue there, just making note of it.
Ordered appetizer grilled alligator, boudin links, cup of gumbo, and side of red beans & rice. The 1lb boiled shrimp entree with added sausage and peach cobbler for dessert.
The only complaints I had with the food was the gumbo was well seasoned/flavored but there were old shrimp and crayfish tails mixed in with more recent/fresh ones. The older ones stood out immediately as they were rubbery and very very dark in color so I picked them out and continued eating. Also the corn with the shrimp was bland, not boiled with the shrimp or with any salt or butter and since I'm being the food critic today I'll say that the peach cobbler was esthetically nightmarish. Horrible color, look, and texture but the taste was mediocre. I personally have never seen cobbler that resembled what I had tried and I'm certain it was microwaved to death before reaching my table. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if they used a microwave for a lot of their menu items, I'd put my paycheck on that if I were to bet.
Now, I wanted to walk out leaving a good review, but the food was middle of the road so I wasn't going to leave one at all until this happened...
The reason for the review to begin with:
BE WARNED
If you are going to pay with a card, they will charge you an additional 4%!
They likely, like in my experience, will not tell you in advance before charging your card. I was given my ticket, I handed them my card, then received the final customer copy that THEN had the break down showing the 4% fee, after the fact...
I wonder how many customers are unaware of that fact and I also wonder how intentional it is to uninform your guests.
I also wonder if it is even legal to be shown one amount, then after they walk off to charge your card and come back with the receipt showing you a completely different amount being charged to your card. Hmm.
You need to tell your customers PRIOR to charging their cards that they are about to receive an additional 4% charge on their bill, and let them decide if they want to pay cash instead of being blind sided. There is no excuse for this. You run a business, not a scam... so don't let us walk out feeling like we have been. It's a simple measure.
We expect to pay for our meal, and we expect our card to be charged the amount shown on the receipt when you walk away, what we don't expect if for you to walk back showing that you charged us even more without our consent. I found that to be a very shady transaction to say the least and I want everyone to know about it before they walk through the doors of...
Read moreThis was my family's 2nd time visiting this location crawfish and the third time eating it as we usually enjoy it at the Cajun Heartland fair too but this is the last. My son chose this location to celebrate his 14th birthday in May and never would have imagined it would end with the owner calling the police. The order was paid for by the time the officers arrived and they were very apologetic; one planned to talk to the owner about the matter. I contacted the manager initially to inform her of our experience in hopes of reconciliation of the matter such as a discount, a refund, or at the very least to be heard. But our voice didn't matter. She was adamant about not refunding so I expressed to her I will pay for my order but I will leave a review. Then she stereotyped me by saying I wouldn't leave a review for McDonald's or Burger King if I received cold fries saying I would go back. My 17-year-old daughter was like mom just hang up the phone. A moment later, two police officers were walking through the door. Was this an intimidation tactic? My question is why those restaurants. I felt stereotyped and judged. I like Zea's, and Don's seafood too. If I didnt want to pay, I wouldn't have waited 2 hours for staff to try to correct the problem. This is (was) also my uncle's go-to spot when he travels out of town. The birthday boy was crying and it caused flashbacks from a past traumatic experience with officers as he has autism and was improperly handled at that time. You never really know what people who support your business go through. Never again. I'm going back to Crawfish Time in Lafayette. Maybe one day this owner will realize that God will prosper and expand your business when you treat...
Read more4/18/19 well I got to come back through for a second taste. The blacken alligator bites and catfish bites are good. I can’t think right now of another place that is so friendly! The staff is definitely on point! (5⭐️), the food, depending what you get, is 4-5⭐️. Definitely going to keep this place in mind and stop through again if possible!! i look forward to next time..
first time eating crawfish4/17/19 Well there “mild” is as hot as Tabasco sauce (IMO) now as I do like spicy hot food, my body says otherwise.. they did take them back and rinsed off the seasoning. The meat and fats kept the flavor and the dipping sauce was spot on! So if y’all want mild have them rinse after cooking them. for first time eating crawfish it was a pleasant experience!
I did have the seafood gumbo, and as well as the crawfish, it was on the spicy side. But there was plenty of shrimp and crawfish meat in it and it came with rice. (I mix the 2 together and it was definitely worth the $6!)
Not sure what is up with the toilet that is on the patio? 😳😳🤨🤨 as for the men’s bathroom, the walls were on the sticky side like the paint hadn’t completely cured and was on the “need TLC” side of things. IE broken celling tiles missing the “cold” tab on the faucet, Little things like that..
Outside patio needs to be cleaned up, folding tables folding metal chairs, on the outside. On the inside the tables some have missing letters and just overall could really use a new “facelift”
The food was good 4-4.5⭐️, the staff was friendly, courteous, and kind! I will be back for round 2 next time I roll through... hopefully I see an update outside and in...
Looking forward to it.. P.S. keep the sign...
