Gum Wah Restaurant — Restaurant in Bremen Township

So I most definitely gotta leave a review hey guys those of you who have followed my reviews always know that I love to let others know about my experience that I have had which might be different from yours but hey this is my review. so I stepped out on faith today as I visited this restaurant located in Midlothian the name of the restaurant is called Gum Wah I'm a pretty loyal Patron meaning that when I like something I'm going to keep going there so my to go to restaurant I forgot it's closed on Sundays so I was looking on Google nearby restaurants and this one kind of stood out to me I checked the menu I read almost like 90 reviews and I looked at their food online so I said hey why not the gentleman that I talked to over the phone just had a really good energy about him you know like I could tell that he really cares about delivering world class customer service so this next comment doesn't have anything to do with them there wasn't really like a lot of spaces to park so I had to park in this Auto shop parking lot I looked around to see if my vehicle was going to be towed I didn't see anything plus I wasn't going to be in the restaurant very long which was next door so the gentleman at the pickup window was the same gentleman that I talked to over the phone I told him I was here for a pickup and while I waited for my food I think I waited less than 5 minutes I was looking at the menu and I just really had a great conversation with the gentleman that took my payment that I wanted to extend my gratitude & appreciation so I left a tip and I had to get a smoothie I really like smoothies by the way I got a strawberry mixed with banana and I added tapioca to my smoothie so when my order was ready and I left the tip on the merchant reciept copy The gentleman gave me some Chinese almond cookies which you guys don't know are one of my favorite cookies and I really like the fortune cookies as well they always have a comforting message that I read when you crack them open I ordered a large chicken fried rice for my wife and son and I and I also got four vegetable egg rolls so I drink the whole entire smoothie before I got home and I wanted to wait and save the almond cookies. when I got home I ate all three almond cookies I left one so my wife can try it so she can see what all the fuss is about I have never had vegetable egg rolls so fresh also the chicken fried rice was so perfectly put together I might have found me a new Chinese restaurant also besides Chinese they specialize in Cantonese Mandarin and Szechuan cuisines so let me leave you with this if you guys are in the Midlothian community please visit this establishment they definitely deserve 10 Stars they are open Tuesday through Saturday and Sunday and they're...

I placed an order via doordash on Saturday January 23, 2021. The total was $78.00 I ordered lobster fried rice, pork egg foo young, shrimp egg rolls, shrimp black sauce. Once again my total was $78.00. The lobster fried rice smelled of pure ammonia as well as the shrimp fried rice as well as the shrimp / black sauce. Will not patron this facility again. I didn't anticipate risking my life to eat a meal. And... When I immediately called to express my displeasure, suddenly his English was so broken, I couldn't understand a single word. Funny how that happened. P.s We ordered from this place a couple of months back and it was fantastic! Not this time! And there will definitely not be another time! UPDATE: I can assure you sir that the smell of ammonia was coming from the lobster that I put in my mouth - in the fried rice! And... that was the only thing I put in my mouth! The rest of the seafood was extremely "smelly". Anytime Seafood has a foul scent and or a scent of ammonia, it has gone bad! Now, I don't know if that food was from Friday or that it was left out on the counter all night, but I'm telling you what we received. There's nothing to talk about privately. There's nothing you can do for me.

UPDATE** 08-01-2024 TRIED THIS PLACE ONCE AGAIN.. It's been Almost a year to the day since we've order from this place. Gum Wah should be shut down! There are no words for how we feel about this restaurants & their lack of standards. Our food was like eating air. But air has way more flavor. It just boggles my mind how this place stays open. Clearly it's suckers like me who keep giving them an opportunity to steal our money. I am convinced that either family members or employees are leaving the positive reviews. The food sucks! We found something black in one of our fried rice. he wondered whether or not it was a black piece of rice or mouse droppings. It's taking me days to leave this review. it's my fault because I thought they may have improved. I...

The food was tasty, but not what I expected for orange chicken. Orange chicken is usually fried a little harder with a tougher thicker batter and dark orange sauce - usually reddish orange-brown in color. What I received was NOT orange chicken. It was literally a transparent sweet and sour sauce with veggies and a few orange peels ...and the same cook of chicken used for sweet and sour chicken (That puffy and light airy chicken you get, its soft and golden), so I feel ripped off. It wasn't the traditional orange chicken I'm used to getting from Chinese food establishments so I was extremely disappointed. I called up there when I got my order home, and they said it is their own "house version" of orange chicken. I was upset that it wasn't explained prior to purchase. Unfortunately nothing was done because it was just "their version" or whatever. But overall, The customer service is pretty good when ordering /waiting and it's a nice place, but they really need to tell people what they serve before purchases so there are no real disappointments - because I definitely am.
