My experience today (Dec. 2018) was mixed, but not so negative that I won't give The Original Pancake House in Oak Forest another try.* (follow up review toward the end) 🎲 🎲 I ordered the steak skillet with pancakes, a side of toast, and coffee. 🥩 🥞 ☕ The first thing I noticed was that their version of the skillet is much smaller than others. 🔎🙁 To its credit, every component of the dish was pleasantly tasty, though even the steak chunks were cut on the small side. The standout was the southern style hash browns - a version of hash browns unique to The Original Pancake House. I highly recommend the delicious southern style hash browns over the plain hash browns alternative. 🥔 👍 Another highlight was the pancakes. Moist and savory, although the pancakes here were also smaller than those served at many other restaurants. 🔎 🥞 👍 Toast is toast, and here they did it right. The only bitter part of my dining experience was the coffee...literally. I gulped the first cup thinking the refill (from a fresh pot I hoped) would be better, but my taste buds told me differently. I'll give them a pass on the coffee though. I've been here on other occasions and this was the first and only time (I hope) that my coffee tasted far less than perfect. ☕ 🎲 🎲 The smaller portions and today's inconsistency are the reasons I give them a middle of the pack rating. The menu has much to offer so I'm sure there are breakfast or lunch selections that could persuade me to improve their ranking at some future point. The service today was the high point. My server, Lacy 👩🏫, was friendly, attentive, accommodating - in a word, exemplary. 👍👍 I will return eventually, with higher hopes. * Before leaving I ordered biscuits and gravy to go, and had them for breakfast the next day. I made a wise choice. 😋👍 The mouth watering biscuits and gravy leave me optimistic that one sour experience was an anomaly and not the norm. See you soon Original Pancake House! 🙏 I stopped in Frigid Friday, Jan 25, 2019 at 10AM planning to sample another breakfast platter. The side booths were filled but the entire main floor was empty save for one table, so it wasn't extremely busy. I walked in, looked at a server near the front desk, then the hostess, who were engaged in conversation with each other. The server left and I looked in the direction of the hostess looking to at least be acknowledged as a customer with "Good morning, how are you, or I'll be with you shortly. ", instead the hostess looked downward and continued the clerical task she was engaged in before I walked in. I am not the type of customer who makes unreasonable demands or expects to have my butt kissed, to the contrary, I've spent decades in different service industries and I'm empathetic with anyone who serves the public, however I put my foot down when it comes to any person or place that doesn't show the slightest appreciation for a person's (any person's) worth to their business, as a customer, or takes customers for granted. I walked out (for good) and headed to another restaurant. This Original Pancake House needs to retrain at least one member of their staff, before it loses more potential customers. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. #Won't get...

2/10 service and will not return. My mother and I wanted to go out for a special breakfast and chose Original Pancake House. I ordered the vegeterian skillet with toast and she ordered a meat lovers platter with pancakes. I wont even speak on how the waitress was short with me and kept cutting me off during my order and rushing my side option selection. I sent my skillet back and decided to eat only the toast because the food was not tasty and felt like dinner left over used for breakfast, with eggs thrown on top. My mother did not care for her meat as the ham was salty and the sausage tasted off but she stuck with it and at pancakes and decided to take the rest home. I notice on the bill, there is an extra charge for a side order of pancakes. When we get to the register we try to explain that this was incorrect and the pancakes comes with the meat lovers order. The manager argued with us because she was under the impression that instead of me eating toast, I ate a side of pancakes which was incorrect. As we try to explain the mistake, she says "we have to pay for what we ate" and when we respond that we WANT to pay for what we ate and that is not the issue, we ask to see the menu again to clarify the side options to the main order. She then says, "we are a privately owned business and we don't have to put that on there or show you." So not only was she misunderstanding that I sent my food BACK and only ate the side order of toast, she had an attitude about showing us the menu for clarification. End result was she apologized when she finally understood they put the food down incorrectly, but the quality of the food does NOT match the price and how strongly she defended those pancakes. You should not pay more than $10 on a meal for breakfast, especially at a place that has pancakes that come on a dish sized plate, not a DINNER plate. We ended up going to STACKS in Tinley Park and my food was ready by the time I pulled up. Go to Stacks, leave this place behind. 2/10 experience; overpriced food, not up to quality taste, and bad service. I know this place has "good reviews" but my experience was much less than so take a chance and possibly waste your...
