We dine out often, but I seldom write a review. However, we had such an enjoyable dining experience and received such outstanding service on our last outing that I was compelled to post this review.
We planned a date night to celebrate my wonderful wife's birthday. She asked that we not go to a typical "fancy steakhouse" like the ones I usually select, so I suggested Mére Bulles.
When we arrived, we were greeted warmly by the hostess and seated promptly. Evan, our friendly and attentive server, introduced himself to us almost immediately and explained that he would be "leading us through a great experience" for the evening. It was a uniquely fresh introduction that was a pleasant change from the usual "I'm so-and-so and I'll be your server tonight." This set the tone for our fantastic dining experience to come. The ambience was relaxed yet refined and the noise level was appropriate.
My wife was deciding between two bottles of wine. After realizing that his descriptions of the wine profiles were not enough to help her decide, Evan instinctively provided her tastings of those bottles. Chef Derrick presented us appetizers of crab cake, charcuterie, Ahi tuna stack, and a dozen raw oysters. All were delicious, especially the Ahi tuna stack which was a deconstruction of a sushi tuna roll. Also, the consistency of the crab cake was just right, not too loose and not too firm.
Then, my wife enjoyed a ginger-infused coconut-based soup, while I had an excellent she crab bisque. Oftentimes, bisques can be overly salty, but this one was just right. As the FOH manager passed by our table, she wished my wife HB which made her feel special.
Evan paced our courses well. For our main course, my wife selected the seasonal scallop special while I went with a "fancy steak" in a MR 16 oz C.A.B. ribeye. That was accompanied by flavorful sides of sautéed wild mushrooms and asparagus. We completed our meal with a delectably moist carrot cake topped by a birthday candle.
Executive Chef Julius Gilbert has crafted an exquisite menu that could satisfy almost any diner. Thank you to the entire team at Mére Bulles for providing us with an exceptional dining experience and a memorable birthday for my beautiful wife! We now look forward to our future date nights at...
Read moreCelebrated my 30th birthday here. Overall our experience was disappointing. We arrived early and were told not to wait next to the host stand but the host never told us where we could go other than the bar top which was full. There were very few people in the restaurant. We awkwardly sat at the bench behind the host. Later when I went to the restroom I discovered there’s a sitting area on the other side of the wall which would have been nice for her to tell us. When sat I ordered a bottle of wine of which the server brought to the table to display the label to my male fiancé and offered for him to taste before pouring. My fiancé was not the one who ordered it and was not sure how to handle this situation - he wasn’t even sure what bottle I had ordered when it came out. When I ordered an appetizer the server checked with my fiancé to make sure he was okay with it. A sexist dining experience which I’ve never encountered before. There was nothing done special for my milestone birthday despite it being noted on our reservation. Not even an acknowledgement from one person. The server encouraged us to get a dessert which we thought was the restaurants effort to celebrate me for the occasion. Alas, this was not the case and we were charged for the dessert which I don’t mind paying for what we ordered but the server was pushing so we thought it was going to be a gesture not an upsell. The food was alright but I would not recommend this restaurant for special occasions as there are much higher quality competitors in the area. It was a weeknight but the restaurant was clearing out by 8:30 and we quickly felt like we had overstayed our welcome by the time we finished our entrees. Felt as if this was a restaurant geared towards retired guests. We’ve dined at many upscale restaurants in Nashville and have always had the occasion at least acknowledged by a host or server. I regret choosing this experience for such a special occasion as we left with an uncomfortable feeling from the outdated establishment and the strange service received from all staff we...
Read moreI’ve been a patron of MBs for two decades. I absolutely love their food. Last night 6/21 after one of the worst and most hectic weeks in our lives my boyfriend, my brother and I booked a 9:30 reservation on Open Table. We arrived on time and it took 10 mins for anyone to greet us and seat us at our table. We were brought food and drink menus and ordered a 1/2 priced bottle of wine in anticipation of trying to shake off our week. We were perusing the menu with our selections decided when a member of their team approached us to let us know their kitchen was closed and we’d need to leave. We’d been at their establishment for 22 minutes at this point. Obviously stunned and frustrated as our waiter was in sight with our wine bottle and glasses we spouted some frustrated sentences, gathered our belongings, and left very upset and very hungry. It was unfortunate this scenario happened as 99% of the restaurants in Brentwood were closed by this point.
We were lucky enough to find a wonderful and welcoming staff at Firebirds who actually turned on the burners and made us a fantastic dinner. They got a 40% tip and earned every cent of it.
I hope restaurants in the area see this post and recognize that service in the area has faltered since COVID and a 9:00 closing means grills off at 8:30 it seems. Either post that information for all to see, don’t have slots to reserve on Open Table and Resy, or lock your doors. This has gotten out of control the last 3 years and as patrons and lovers of food we’d love to see restaurants in this area mimic and learn from Firebirds as they’ve clearly figured it out. We will not be back to Mere Bulls for a LONG time I...
