V & V Vietnamese Cuisine is the quintessential small business family American dream in action. Come support it! Taste it!
BACK AGAIN 3 MONTHS LATER: Traveled back to work in Nashville and once again stopped in to warm up at super friendly resilient family business Vi's V & V Vietnamese Cuisine, the only Vietnamese restaurant option in Brentwood for people just get life and enjoy good healthy food.
This time there is snow and ice and severe low temperatures setting the scene for my first bowl of the newest menu addition Vietnamese Beef Stew.
This is the place where even after you've ordered , you will want to keep reading the menu to plan your next visit
You have joint pain? You NEED pho in your life, more so in your tummy, with as many Accoutrements as offered.
But Back to the Beef Stew, we find this dish with perfectly textured chunks of tender beef, spices, rich thick brown broth invites the handmade baguettes , run that back...
yes
Actual rice flour baguettes NOT from a mega baker. This alone is worth finding your way here for a Banh Mi with lemon grass tofu.
I'll be returning a couple times this week because it's right next to the hotel and really there's so much that I want to try that I haven't had yet.
The wonder sushi chef is now elsewhere they're focusing on developing their menu more in alignment with an authentic vibe. Don't be afraid to ask how something was had traditionally and how and what it might mean especially in context of family. In October I had an incredible sushi dinner here that's in my previous review below however today I learned that they are moving forward with some great plans.
When they had opened up they had some sushi as a bridge to get to the more authentic dream of the place as they recovered from the setbacks from the last few years pandemic brought to businesses in America.

ORIGINAL OCTOBER 2023 REVIEW: Welcomed me from across the open well lit yet ambient space! Simply amazing hospitality. Cannot wait to eat here again. I hope they are never too busy for a conversation but as I understand it they only opened up 4 months ago in this location so it's bound to get crowded as soon as the word gets out!
I'm not sure if you should expect them. Same treatment that I got because I just walked into this place and started having a grand time. Fortunately for me there were not a lot of customers when I arrived. However, soon they did get a little busy or and that's always a good sign that the food is going to be fresh.
But soon I didn't worry about anything like. There was meticulous care in their cleanliness and in their food preparation area as far as I could see. The bathrooms faucets are even a little fancier than you would think.
I love all of the four restaurants in this little area, but this one just blew me away today.
In my pictures you'll see the deluxe sashimi however, you get a different experience in any sushi place if you were very friendly and sit at the bar and engage without being too overbearing. Lol I did have two Sapporo except perhaps I overshared with the staff, but that is the charm of a good restaurant and...
Read moreI was very shocked by the horrible experience my friends and I had at V & V. I, and a group of 3 friends, went last Saturday night at 7pm. When we went in I noticed that 3 tables were dirty but assumed that the parties had just left and that they would be cleaned up soon. They never were. When we went to order I asked for the crepe but was told by our server that they were out. Then I asked for the baguette, again she said they were out. I then ordered a dish I’d never had before and was excited to try it. It was a very long wait, about 40 mins First our appetizers arrived along with one of our friends pho. The appetizer I received was incorrect, but I didn’t bring it up because I also enjoyed what the waitress brought me. Then my friend was given a meal she did not order, so she flagged the waitress and said “I ordered pho”. The waitress left without a word, and after a few minutes a boy took the dish away. We waited a while and then they brought my friend her pho. While I was still waiting for my food I noticed the only other table was waiting on something and got up and asked the waitress, then the man from that party sat back down and said to the table “sometimes you just have to ask”. It had now been 30 mins since my friend got her food, and mine still hadn’t arrived, so I asked where it was. A few moments later the waitress dropped a bowl in front of me. It was the same dish my friend had sent back half an hour ago, ice cold. I couldn’t believe it! I went to the waitress and asked if it was the same dish. She said she gave it to my friend and she didn’t want it “and got an attitude with me about it”. I was absolutely aghast ay the customer service and couldn’t believe the way the server was acting. My friend is a very timid person and definitely did not have any form of sass in her. I just told the waitress that my friend sent it back because she didn’t order it, I didn’t know what the dish I ordered looked like so didn’t assume it was for me, and that I would not be eating or paying for a meal that contained meat and had been sitting out for 30 mins. The waitress was totally rude to me even though I was talking to her calmly. At this point all four of us were in utter shock. Our male friend paid the bill so we could just get out of there. By then it was almost 9pm and we had to rush to another restaurant to get me some food since I had yet to eat. Overall I was completely appalled. I recommend that you give this place a miss based on their abysmal customer service. I would give an opinion on the food, but sadly I never got to try...
Read moreThe interior of the restaurant was the nicest Vietnamese restaurant in a strip mall we’ve ever been to (the only nicer ones are standalone higher end establishments). There has been a lot of attention paid to décor and it shows. Overall, we found the flavor and quality of the food to be very good, but falling short of excellent in some key places. The quantity for the price felt like it was not a good value. (For two adults and a child, we ordered two combination pho and a shaken beef. This wasn’t enough food so we added a Vietnamese Beef Stew.) For both Combination Pho and Shaken Beef, we've had better elsewhere at those prices but the Beef Stew was a clear winner for us.
Combination Pho - $19.95 Extremely flavorful broth, but small quantity of rice noodles and relatively sparse meats for the $20 price point. Tendon was undercooked and crunchy.
Shaken Beef - $21.95 Flavor was good, but the some of the beef was chewy and none of it was super tender (as some preparations of shaking beef can be). Rice wasn't as moist as we'd like it.
Vietnamese Beef Stew - $13.95 Very flavorful beef stew with a decent quantity of beef (especially when comparing it to the pho). Toasted "baguette" was actually quite good. The shape is more like a mini batard rather than a baguette. The exterior was crisp and crackly while the interior was soft and fluffy. Very good.
I don’t know if it’s just this location or Nashville in general, but we were surprised by the relatively small quantities given the cost of the dishes. Flavor was good but not the best execution of these dishes...
