Cash only, take out only. PNC Bank across the street if you need an ATM.
I was born and raised nearest pizza shop. 37 years on this Earth and I've been eating their pizza. Over my years with travel, I've had pizza from many states across the country due to work and vacation. This has always been the number one pizza for me. The sauce usually is not overbearing in the amount that they put on, it seems to be just right. The sauce is real sweet herbs/spices in the sauce are not pungent and they compliment the sweetness real well. I sincerely have never had a dough like their dough. Yep with a flakiness to it. I always tell people that I think of biting into a fresh donut and chewing that. I just had some last night, introduced my girlfriend's family to it. Her dad doesn't do pizza much because the crust is too tough with his dentures. He thoroughly enjoyed their pizza, said the crust was perfect. I'm not sure where they acquired their cheese or their process to it, but it is really good mozzarella. Looking at it, I would guess that they great it themselves from blocks. The sauce is a family recipe and I'm pretty darn certain that they make the dough themselves. I wish they were open more than 3 days a week.
Family owned and operated. They've been open since long before I was born.
10 out of 10, I recommend this place to everyone. If you are a pizza lover, you have to try this! You WILL be hooked.
One last thing to mention. You can buy a frozen or cold uncooked pizza with instructions so you can cook it at home. This is wonderful if you're traveling somewhere and want to expose someone to this pizza. So convenient, this helped me when I would visit a friend an hour away.
Do yourself a favor and stop in on one of the three days they're open, I promise you...
Read moreVery skimpy toppings, one piece of mushroom per slice really isn't very much. Waste of money. Go to Donte's in South Park or Fiori's on West Liberty Ave instead. Ordered double everything but not extra sauce. I should've because there was hardly any sauce at all, ruining what otherwise would be a very good pizza. It's funny cause yrs ago they put too much sauce making a sloppy mess to eat. Too much then, not enough now lol . I don't think the owners know anything about making a good pie for the price. There's always something wrong. Used to be my favorite place but no more only because they are too cheap to make a delicious tasting pizza. UPDATE 6-27-25. I swore I would never go back but I did. And what a disappointment AGAIN. I ordered 16 cut square (because the 8 cut round is always undercooked in the middle) and hoped it would be fully cooked but, as usual, it wasn't. Undercooked to the MAX so maybe their ovens need adjusted this has happens EVERY SINGLE TIME. And stupid me keeps going back hoping beyond hope they will cook it right and it will have the same high quality it did when I first started eating it 50+yrs ago. The so called "crust" is only cooked to a sort of "thicker soft bread like" stuff that is more suited to be a breakfast bread. IT SUCKS, it is the absolute WORST pizza crust around here, I cannot FATHOM why ANYONE would think this high quality, IT IS NOT. It is a weird bread something smothered with DELICIOUS SAUCE and cheese. Hey Pizza Hut Owners: FIX YOUR OVENS THEY ARE NOT COOKING THE...
Read moreIn trying out all the pizza places in my area, and along 51, we find this cozy pizza joint that's all too easy to miss if you don't happen to be looking through the storefronts. What is there to say?
First off, if you google their online menu right now as of 11-7-22, it's not correct. It's for a different place. All they offer at Pizza Shack is a standard Pizza in a few sizes, and with different toppings. Though, I believe they do offer them in a form ready to be frozen and stuffed into an oven at home. I may be wrong there, but I think I recall seeing that inside.
Second, this place is Cash Only. No card. So, bring the bills if you want to order.
But now, with that aside, how was the pizza?
As you might expect from any place that hopes to survive as Cash Only, the pizza was very, very good! I am willing to qualify that the sauce was very sweet, and it did run a fair bit. However, there wasn't too much (or too little), and it had good signs of being very freshly made. Which I think stacks with the fact you can watch them make pizza in front of you when you go to pick it up.
It may seem rather unappealing when every place tries to come up with a signature pizza, or offer a dozen options of appetizers. But, if you just want a conventional pizza you might find anywhere, and want to emphasize the hand-made touch? I'd strongly consider Pizza Shack.
I'll also include a photo I took of their menu in this review.
First two clipped toppings are Sausage...
