Let me start by saying that I am Puerto Rican and as a result I tend to stay away from Puerto Rican restaurants because it is almost impossible for their cooking to compare to what I get at home. Banderas was a very pleasant surprise. The food was absolutely delicious. I was in the mood for some frituras, in this case alcapurrias and pastelillos and both of these were absolutely delicious, the best I have had in any Puerto Rican restaurant in Bridgeport and nearby. They both were filled with meat and the meat actually had flavor. After I asked for a small serving of carne frita (fried pork chunks) and yucca. The yucca was absolutely amazing, it was cooked perfectly, moist and garlicky with tocino (pork skin). Chef Michel is on point with his food and I will definitely be going back for more. While talking to Michel he mentioned that he also does catering (all types of food not just Puerto Rican). The restaurant is very small, the type of place you order at the counter and are served from the dishes which are prepared and are on hot plates. He has a counter with several bar stools and a few table areas. This is predominantly a takeout place but you can eat at the establishment if you want. We ate there and spoke with Chef Michel to hear his story, and it is an inspiring one. Essentially he opened his place in the middle of the pandemic and is making a go at it. Very inspiring. The restaurant although small has art work on the walls displaying Puerto Rican images and it is very inviting. We will definitely be back to try other items...

The menu was full of tempting options, making it hard to choose just one. What stood out immediately was the care and precision the chef put into every dish. He prepared and plated each entrƩe meticulously, holding all three plates behind the counter until they were perfectly finished. Only then did he bring them to the table, showing clear pride in his craft.
The food was absolutely deliciousāflavorful without being overwhelmed by too much sazón or adobo, which can sometimes be the case at other Puerto Rican spots. The balance of flavors was just right.
Overall, it was a memorable visit. The food, service, and dedication made it worth the stop, and Iāll definitely be returning the next time Iām...
