This spot had been on our list for a long time. Being from South Philly, we were always jealous such a cool place was all the way up in Croydon! Well, Croydons lucky to have Giovannis Dillicious Pickles.
A rainy Thursday heralded adventure, and Giovannis fit the bill. After an easy parking job out front, we entered in to a beautifully decorated and cozy diner style room adorned in everything pickle. Clean tables, and floors, we approached the counter and met the newly minted waiter Dean, who couldn't have been sweeter of a guy. We picked out table, got our drinks and were delivered our first ever Pickle Flight! How cool!!!! We tried their Santa (jolly rancher infused) Philly (green apple) a Butterscoth and an Old Bay seasoned set of pickle chips. Delish and one of a kind. The flavors hit, but didn't take away from the pickles themselves!
We ordered two of the signature Giovanni Pickle Hoagies, one with chips, one with fried pickles, and a 10inch Dill Pickle Pizza! Eyes were bigger than our stomachs, these pickle hoagies are HUGE and stuffed with beautifully cut deli slices. We each ate a half, should have only ordered one, but glad for the leftovers.
Then the Pickle pizza arrived! Ranch, dill, tons of thinly sliced pickles, and mozzarella. Although we anticipated taking some home, we ate the whole thing!! A perfect marriage of flavors, an amazing thin crispy crust that wasn't soggy from a pizza that was topped with a lot of moisture, which I thought was impressive.
Dean was a treat. We talked about our holidays, the new year, vacation. Very attentive and just a wholesome nice guy.
The chef in the back was super busy handling party platters while keeping up with our order, and even brought the pizza out to us!
It was just an overall wonderful experience, and well worth the 40 minute drive.
5 stars and more. We'll...
Read moreI found Giovanni’s from a Facebook post that went locally viral about a negative Google review that, in my honest opinion, was absolutely absurd. Being a lover of pickles and a bit of an a**hole towards terrible customers who have clearly never worked in the service industry, I decided to make the trip to SPITE that one guy who left an undeserved 1 star Google review. Some people are insane. Period. Anyways. My honest opinion on the place- SERVICE- impeccable. We were seated immediately, the owner and the staff member working were so helpful, fun, and friendly. We were seated and given a pickle flight + samples of the pickle soup. Wonderful! The butterscotch pickles were a bit off putting, but I’m one of those weirdos that can’t mix my flavours (so sweet + the typical vinegar I like in pickles was a no go for me) FOOD- so much fun! We ordered a Buffalo checkin pickle boat, which was a VERY large pickle sliced in half loaded with Buffalo chicken and served with chips. Delicious! We also had the Parmesan pickle spears (also good), but my favourite by far was the loaded fried pickles. Absolutely amazing. We got two orders after devouring the first. PRICE- I don’t know what some of ya’ll are complaining about- prices were reasonable all around. If these were appetizers in a regular restaurant setting, prices were on par if not lower than that type of setting.
Overall- a great experience. Obviously not a spot we’ll regularly be at (talk about a stomach ache), but we will be back soon!
Thank you for a fun and...
Read moreTHIS PLACE IS THE BEST!!!!! ITS EPIC, OUTSTANDING, AND PHENOMENAL! I tried this place for the first time last week, and we bought a bunch of items. This place is so cute inside and such a nice little place to enjoy some DILLicious pickles! The staff was so nice and friendly and very helpful! The manager Gabrielle was very welcoming and accommodating to us being new customers. She helped explain the products they were selling and even let us know about new products and things to try. She was very personable and made us feel at home. She let us know about upcoming events and even let us join as taste testers for an upcoming taste testing event at the restaurant! As soon as we got home, I tried everything and was so happy with the quality and taste of the products! They have such a great menu with so many options. There is something for everyone! It’s also a huge plus because they serve items that are gluten free. My sisters are gluten free and they greatly appreciate Giovanni’s having foods that they can safely eat. Today I went for their taste testing event. It was so fun! The foods were delicious and I will definitely be coming back for the foods I tried today! The loaded pickle chips were definitely one of my favorites! If you’re a pickle fan, you definitely need to try this place out! It’s such a nice place with good food and good people! I can’t wait to come back there for some fresh pickles and DILLicious...
