El Ranchero Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in Broadway

After glancing at other reviews it seems like I have an unpopular opinion but here it goes: I ate here late spring/early summer in the evening. I am new to the area as of last fall and had a craving for Mexican food. I asked about this place and one coworker recommended it while another one did not. I was seated right away and my server was friendly and efficient. She kept my drink and chips refilled. I think I ordered some enchiladas with a taco and rice (that's my go to order Mexican food order 99% of the time). The only part of my meal I enjoyed was the Pepsi I ordered. Coming from a fountain it was like a Sprite from McDonald's...perfect! The food was hot but it just did not taste very good. It felt like it was cooked once and reheated or was just stale only not very hard. Even the chips were bad. I talked about my experience with the coworker who did not recommend this place and she told the problems she has had with the food.

Chose because it had a 4.6 rating. I know ratings are relative and lots of things factor in, like being the ony Mexican within 30 miles. For me who travels and has had amazing Mexician this is just not up to par. About the food: The veggie burrito was mostly broccoli, no mushrooms, few peppers or onions and literally just covered in chili pepper...not a sautéed seasoned blend as per usual. Forgot to bring tortilla with entray, though it eventually arrived. Chicken Chimichanga, lots of nice chicken, just no flavor or seasoning, just chicken in a tortilla. It was fried but must have sat with sauce on it for a bit before being served as not the nice crispy wrap expected. The cheese sause was generic as well. Both entrays were accompanied with Guacamole, not to bad, fresh well balanced even though pretty plain it was nice enough. Fresh lettuce, fresh sour cream, and one slice of blan tomatoe. We have enjoyed dining here several times. The food is delicious and prepared fresh and you are served fresh chips and salsa while your meal is prepared. The portions are generous! You can also call in to order carry out. There is a wide variety of menu entrees including vegetarian selections, and child portions. They have a nice selection of beer, wine and spirits to choose from in the upper family seating dining room. You can enjoy a drink with friends at the full bar in the lower level. Both areas have several TVs to keep Sports lovers up to date. There are 2 handicap spaces at the base of the restaurant sign pole. They are close to the door with a slight curb to step/roll over. Overall, we enjoy the atmosphere, the delicious food, and the affordable pricing. Most selections are under 10 dollars.
