I've been to Brass Kettle when it was in Sanford quite a bit and it was always such a great spot for a delicious breakfast in a friendly environment. When I had the opportunity to try out the new location, I was very optimistic and excited to see the new location. Upon arrival, I immediately noticed that it was smaller than the previous location. The outside sitting area is rather nice and would be a nice spot to sit, but it was too hot for us so we opted to sit inside.
The inside is very small, with no more than 6 tables. Thankfully, it wasn't crowded when we arrived so we were able to snag a table. Now you order at the counter rather than a waitress, and I'll be honest that made me a bit sad. I've always found the waitresses to be friendly and add something to the experience. However, we were excited to see many familiar items on the menu. Placed our order and were prompted where we could find everything to set up for our meal.
The area for cutlery and cups is rather crowded. Also, everything is plastic or paper how. No real dishes are used for meals anymore. Styrofoam cups for every beverage including coffee. No lids. This was a let down but not any type of deal breaker, but I do think this section could use a bit more of a creative arrangement to utilize the space better so they can accommodate for a travel coffee cup at least.
We sat down to eat and the wait for our food wasn't too long. When our meals arrived at the tables, everything was on a Styrofoam plate. Not even a sturdy one at that as one plate was almost dropped due to its flimsy stature. One of the plates of food was incorrect, however we didn't touch the plate and were able to give it back for the correct food. Food itself was good, but my waffle wasn't even warm enough to melt the butter that was on the table and at room temperature. Bacon was also not crisp.
What made me feel the worst was when an employee slipped and fell while working. Thankfully she was ok but I know it was a tough fall. She was older and was struggling to get back on her feet. I am not sure of how exactly she fell or what the reason is. I truly hope she was ok!
Overall I hate to even post this review, because I really enjoyed my previous experiences at the prior location. Maybe these few critiques about my experience will be considered for improving things that are fixable to restore a more positive experience for others. Rooting for the success of Brass Kettle, but I won't rush to come back.
EDITING TO REPLY: We've all felt the sting of corporate greed and insane real estate inflation in some way. It doesn't make my happy in any way to know a place like Brass Kettle has suffered so much because of it. I do appreciate your attention to my review, although it does come across a bit defensive rather than helpful. I want your business to succeed as it is a staple in our community. Your hostility regarding my disappointment in Styrofoam cups and plates is misguided and off-putting. Just because my review is the only one talking about it, doesn't mean I'm the only person disappointed by it. Not everyone will extend any input on their experience; rather they will just not come back. I'm glad that Janet is ok! She was very sweet as were all the employees and I'm sure she was thankful that so many of them made themselves available to aid her. Please understand that as a business owner, critiques are a part of it. I know your business is personal to you, but my comments are not a personal attack. Rather, their intent was to be a helpful guide in some things that can be changed to improve your business. Good luck to you...
Read moreMy husband and I brought my dad and step mom here for breakfast when they were in town visiting. We had previously been to the former location and loved it, so we'd give the new location a try, and it did not disappoint.
Dad had the SOS plate with extra sausage patties. Biscuit was fluffy, the gravy was nice and creamy, they even accommodated his request and put his eggs on top, which were cooked over easy, the yolks were perfect.
Step mom had just french toast and said it was wonderful, crispy outside and fluffy inside.
My husband and I both had the loaded hashbrown plate with country ham and a side of gravy. It was super filling and hearty and just amazing.
Service was counter order and staff would bring out. All the staff was efficient, attentive, and friendly. The restaurant itself is not huge, but has indoor and outdoor seating and is cozy and homey. The atmosphere was vintage and retro in a great way, my father LOVED the quarter car!
The prices were fair and appropriate to the portions. The portions were all very filling. Service was great. Even as it got busy everything moved.

Read moreI ordered 2 country ham biscuits with extra ham. The biscuits were dry to say the least and seemed microwaved and the country ham was also very dry and definitely wouldn't have been able to taste it without the extra ham. 18 dollars for 2 biscuits and a sweet tea with extra ham?? I order the exact same thing at the landmark in Sanford for under 10 dollars and the biscuits are fresh and flaky as well as buttery and delicious!
Not sure where they buy their country ham but would u like to see my last 3 receipts from last week?? Sorry to inform u but their food is very high quality and Robbie would never sacrifice quality nor would he sell a stale microwaved biscuit or dried country ham! The landmark has very high quality food that is cooked in commercial equipment daily and they just don't believe in robbing their customers for sed quality period!! Can you honestly tell me that was a freshly baked biscuit in your...
