Danger von Dempseys Brookings — Restaurant in Brookings Township

We were in town visiting and this place was recommended. I placed an order for pick up and was told the pizza would be ready in 20 minutes. Knowing it was a Friday night and prior food service experience- I gave the place extra time and showed up about 40 mins later. Upon arrival- before the cashier or pizza slinger acknowledged me they stated it would be at least a 45 min wait. I stated that I was there for a pick up. They did not ask my name for the puck up order. 5 minutes later - I went up to the counter and asked if my order was ready - they stated it would be another 20 minutes - I stated when I called they stated it would be 20 minutes and that I would like to cancel my order. Suddenly the pizza slinger stopped and said - wait her order is right here. I proceeded to pay and leave. Upon arrival back at the hotel - I noticed the pizza was not the correct pizza - and called back. The lady who answered the phone apologized and stated that they would make me a new pizza and offered me a pint on them. When I showed up to pick up the pizza - thw pizza slinger - stated "my bad". I love Dempsey’s in Watertown and was excited to hear they were opening up in Brookings. So I came in hoping for a Watertown Dempsey’s experience - and didn’t get that. Part of the Watertown experience is the cozy, warm interior. Brookings’ interior is lit with fluorescent lights and feels cramped. (Same exact layout and lighting as 1000 Degrees - the previous tenant). The menu on the wall was too small to see. The actual pizza wasn’t quite up to Watertown’s standards either. Good size portion for the house salad at $4 a portion. Pizza was decent size for the price. Not my favorite, the buffalo sauce was way too mild and you could hardly taste it. Overall I would say they are about one star above your typical Papa John's location. No need to go out of your way to grab a pie from them.

The lemon cake was delicious and moist; however, for $6 the slice was about half the size it should be. If they charged $4 I wouldn't say anything.
