Food is typically great, can't usally complain. The menu does not accurately depict what the food contains. Some rolls have spicy Mayo on them that the menu doesn't state. No big deal. Just an FYI for future patrons. We did also recieve cold food when we ordered take out 6 minutes before closing. I understand that frustration having worked in food.
However, being a person who used to work in a sushi restaurant, its not uncommon for customers to enjoy sitting at the sushi bar. I feel we may have unknowingly insulted the staff by asking to sit at the bar. When we walked in for our date (my wife and I), the employee sitting at the bar was silent at first. After we sat down at the bar, with the employee in the corner, he began to smack outwardly and very openly. An additional cook came to eat his dinner and asked us respectfully "may I sit here" and we said "yes". He sat down, began to enjoy his meal. He also began to follow suit in smacking loudly beside us but I'm assuming his empathy kicked in because he decided to stop unlike the first and finished his meal and went back to work. Not trying to attack anyone, maybe people were just having a bad day. Other than that, amazing food...
Read moreSake is a really solid sushi place, even beats out pricier options in Sioux Falls, Philadelphia and Minneapolis. Their fish is high quality, but it's best to go on Tuesday or Wednesday if you want it really fresh. My SO really likes their cooked options like the gyoza and tonkatsu.
I have celiac disease and have been able to get amazing order customization and service to exchange out gluten containing content from rolls. In most other restaurants you're told that they can't prepare something gluten free, but I've had fried meat items steamed or grilled as substitutes and gluten containing sauces put on the side so that if family or friends want they can still try some of whatever I got.
They have a good variety of rolls and sushi available at different price points.
Through some of my weirder orders I also got to know the wait staff and chefs and have never got any rude or annoyed looks when asking a million questions or forcing them to write a page of substitutes on...
Read moreNot a bad place for dinner if you’d like some sushi- a rather rare commodity in the Midwest. From places I’ve been elsewhere on the coasts, it seems to be of similar quality. The fried ice cream is quite exquisite, particularly the green tea one, and if you’re a university student on a budget, then Monday nights at half off is a must. For you cheap blokes out there, it’s a great dating spot, in particular on Monday nights. They do however, lose one star for not having stellar service. I don’t expect them to be perfect every time, but occasionally on busier nights they will simply not go back to the table they’re serving but only to give the check. For example, tonight I was hungry enough to order another roll of roasted salmon, but the check was dropped off without asking if I would like anything else, so I ended up paying and going elsewhere for a little fix. Overall, best place in...
