Brookings City Liquor Store — Local services in Brookings Township

I don't understand how a governmental entity (City of Brookings) can own a liquor store. And be the only supplier to all alcohol retailers in town. All bars, restaurants, convenience stores must buy from the store. The are beer oriented (Brookings is a college town.) Inexpensive wine. There are some more expensive offerings. As a person from out of town, I thought they had a good regular beer selection (I was only looking at beer, particularly local craft beer). They did have a pretty good selection of local craft beer (mostly IPAs) and they had Drekker (ND) which is almost impossible to find, but it was mostly sold out. Store is clean, well-organized and has plenty of options for all your needs. The staff is polite and helpful. They have a walk-in cooler and wine chiller. Their wine selection is impressive for being a moderately small store.
